Siberian Enlistment Officer Shot as Recruitment Offices Torched Across Russia
Source: The Moscow Times
A Siberian enlistment officer has been shot and seriously wounded during Russias military call-up, regional authorities said Monday as discontent over President Vladimir Putins draft continues to spread into far-flung regions. Gruesome footage from an Irkutsk region military recruitment office showed a man in fatigues shooting another man point-blank and sending others scattering from the assembly hall.
The shooting marks one of the most dramatic instances of outrage over Putins draft of around 300,000 reservists for battle in Ukraine. Igor Kobzev, the governor of the Irkutsk region 5,000 kilometers east of Moscow, said chief enlistment officer Alexander Yeliseyev was critically wounded and is now fighting for his life as a result of the shooting.
The shooter, whom Kobzev has not identified, was detained at the recruitment office in the Irkutsk town of Ust-Ilim. Local media outlets with close links to the security services identified the shooter as local resident Ruslan Zinin, 25. Zinins mother, Marina Zinina, told the Astra independent news website that Zinin was very upset because his friend without military experience had allegedly received draft papers despite the authorities pledge to recruit strictly experienced reservists.

(2,412 posts)Exactly!!!! The torching of recruitment centers all over Russia is a bold move for Peace. People are recognizing that War is a medieval idea that is not acceptable in the 21st Century. We did the same during the Vietnam War era!

Wouldn't that be nice?
When, I wonder, will we as a species be wise enough to ban war?

(2,391 posts)Runs deep in our species. Weve been warring amongst ourselves for our entire existence, for stupid-assed reasons like religion, skin color, they were on our land before we got here, he looked at me funny, they talk funny, etc. (some snark in the last two)
Many of us, I think, just follow along and get swept into the groupthink, unable to escape, due to poor education, lack of critical thinking skills, lack of empathy, etc., or a combination of any/all three. Just look at the GOPQ/MAGAts, for an example here in this country.

Over the weekend, in the city of Novokuznetsk in Russia's Kemerovo region, flames engulfed the Evraz ZSMK steel plant, also known as the West Siberian Iron & Steel.
Russian oligarch Abramovich is one of the major shareholders of Evraz.

Had a pen pal from the town for a few years. Long enough ago that he's not subject to the pro jure mobilization (which is meaningless, like, "We are *not* going to invade!" .

The execution of this war is in the hands of the Russian people. They will decide the fate of puketins dictatorship.
Start the fire.

You have to wonder in the back of your mind how much he must hate the Russian people? He turned their economy into a gangster economy where the state plays favoritism, and monopolies take all the wealth. The mass of people on low wages pay most of the taxes.
To make matters worse, Russia just got over a huge COVID surge in Aug. And now he wants their sons and fathers to die in a useless war. I feel sorry for Russian citizens. The younger ones never voted for Putin. This is how it goes when you have dictators, kings and Tsars.
May the coming Russian revolution be less destructive than Putin has been.

Ideologues, that's what they're like: Whatever the cost, as long as the Cause is won!
So sad to think these despots have no end in sight for their destruction as long as their cause has not been won yet. If they lived forever, they would go on forever.

(19,231 posts)A young man shot a Russian military officer at close range at an enlistment office Monday, in an unusually bold attack reflecting resistance to the Russian leaderships efforts to mobilize hundreds of thousands of men to wage war on Ukraine.
The shooting comes after scattered arson attacks on enlistment offices and protests in Russian cities against the call-up that have resulted in at least 2,000 arrests. Russia is seeking to bolster its military as its Ukraine offensive has bogged down and sapped its forces.
In the attack in the Siberian city of Ust-Ilimsk, 25-year-old local resident Ruslan Zinin walked into the enlistment office saying no one will go to fight and we will all go home now, according to local media reports.
Zinin was arrested and officials vowed tough punishment. Local authorities said the military commandant was in intensive care, without elaborating. A witness quoted by local news site said Zinin was in a room of people called up to fight. Troops from his region were scheduled to head to military bases Tuesday. /snip
