Trump Under Fire From Within G.O.P. After Midterms
Source: New York Times
As the sheer number of missed Republican opportunities sank in, the rush to openly blame Mr. Trump was as immediate as it was surprising.
Conservative allies criticized Mr. Trump on social media and cable news, questioning whether he should continue as the partys leader and pointing to his toxic political brand as the common thread woven through three consecutive lackluster election cycles.
Mr. Trump was seen as largely to blame for the Republicans underwhelming finish in Tuesdays elections, as a number of the candidates he had endorsed in competitive races were defeated including nominees for governor and Senate in Pennsylvania and for governor of Michigan, New York and Wisconsin.

(838 posts)I fear a DeSantis administration - younger, far smarter, evil, lethal - far more than another Trump administration.

(22,917 posts)He can be bought by anyone anywhere and will deliver this nation on a silver platter to anyone who can write him a check. In that important sense I think Trump maxes out evil. We had to bring Trump down. If coming up against DeSantis next is the price we have to pay to do so, so be it.

Don't tell me these invertebrates are making a move on "The Donald"? A few days ago he was the party. How is Trump going to snap them back into line now?
All the conjecture about Trump having dirt on all of those worms might finally be answered. Can the Orange Pig regain control of the spineless republicans that have kissed his ass (and a few other body parts) for the past 7 years? Will republicans remember what those two dangly things in their scrotums are once again?
Stay tuned.

(9,898 posts)They shouldn't blame Trump, they should blame themselves. Trump only has as much power in the GOP as they give him. Donnie isn't some undercover operator, he's as obvious as his long red tie. And the quality of his endorsees is for all the world to see. They've got no one but themselves to blame.

One thing that Fascism brings is unfettered loyalty to one Strongman. Who is sent by God, and he alone.
Once one is conditioned, brainwashed into the cult of this one god like ruler, if he's still kicking, and still bitching and moaning, its damn hard to just say..."sorry, we've found a new messiah"
Most cases an authoritarian like personality, has to die to be replaced. Like Chavez, or Castro. While he's still living and breathing, and if he's also a megalomaniac like Trump, he will demand his "rightful" place.
And sadly, a whole lot of cult worshippers will stay loyal to him until he actually relinquishes power. And knowing Trump, he will never do that.
ps. Which may be a good thing for Democrats, if his hubris will split the R party down the middle, if DeSantis wins the nomination.

(11,655 posts)Even before he tried to violently overthrow the government because he's a sore loser, he spent 4 years narrowing his base and attacking the majority of Americans who voted against him. When you lose the popular vote and then vilify everyone who voted against you, its rather irrational to expect that you will magically become more popular.

(6,617 posts)Who gives a shit? I don't. They were against him after J6 and then started kissing his ass again. All he had to do was a few trailer park rallies and they were all behind him again. The republican party is a cesspool of deplorables.
