Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Who Wielded Zip Ties on Floor of Congress Found Guilty for Jan. 6 Breach
Source: Military.com
A retired Air Force lieutenant colonel was found guilty Wednesday on six charges -- including one felony for obstructing an official proceeding -- related to breaching the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and attempting to interrupt the electoral certification of President Joe Biden.
Larry Brock, 55, entered the Senate chambers on the afternoon of Jan. 6 brandishing zip ties and wearing tactical gear; his plate carrier bore a skull patch with the Texas flag imposed into the design, indicating his home state.

Brock will be sentenced in mid-February and faces a maximum 20 years in prison for his felony obstruction count. His five other charges are misdemeanors and range from disorderly conduct in the Capitol to entering and remaining on the floor of Congress; combined, they carry a maximum three and a half years in jail.

Generally, yes. Being convicted of a crime almost never jeopardizes a federal pension the rare exception to this rule are charges relating to criminal disloyalty to the United States: espionage, treason, sabotage, etc.

(70,551 posts)I hope he dies in prison. He was so caught up in his delusional world that he though that
crossing police lines, breaking into the US Capitol, and arresting Nancy Pelosi for some
made up crime that she did not commit was being patriotic.
Being a Lt. Colonel means he is most likely a college graduate too. I wonder how he feels now
that Trump is on record that he knew that he lost the election.

(10,197 posts)He would be an O-5 and that's a very livable pension if he's fully retired.
In the Navy you would be required to have your Masters to make 0-5. But being in the Air Force, they may require even higher education.
He'll probably still get to keep his pension unless he was convicted of crimes relating to criminal disloyalty to the United States: espionage, treason, sabotage, etc.
His ex wife turned him in. She's probably getting half his pension since they were married for 18 years.

Former President Trump told his then-chief of staff this is embarrassing, and I dont want people to know that we lost, after the Supreme Court ruled against him on a key case about the 2020 election, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson told the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

(15,345 posts)and you have to petition the VA to have benefits restored once you're released from prison.
It is, unfortunately, the veterans responsibility to notify the VA that they have been incarcerated. Failure to notify the VA can result in an overpayment of benefits that the veteran will be required to payback, with interest and fines.
I also believe that if the veteran fails to notify the VA, they can also be charged with fraudulently obtaining benefits.
But, here's the point I want to make.
Although it is rare. Retired veterans can be recalled to active duty and punished under the UCMJ.
That needs to happen in these cases, the most high profile one being General Mike Flynn.
Retirees are different than folks that just did a couple of years and got out of the military.
Retirees maintain a connection with the military. They are expected and required to live up to certain standards.
Even if it is hard, RETIRED MILITARY THAT PARTICIPATED IN AN ATTEMPT TO OVERTHROW THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, SHOULD NOT CONTINUE TO RECEIVE BENEFITS FROM THAT GOVERNMENT!

(12,423 posts)I'm still subject to recall under certain conditions and can be prosecuted under the UCMJ.
I still live my civilian life with the same discipline and morals as I did in the Marines.
Every military member, active, reserve or retired that participated that day should be recalled and prosecuted under the UCMJ, or at the very least, lose their bennies for life.
