Bidens Toasted a 2024 Campaign With Macron at the State Dinner
Source: New York Times
WASHINGTON Jill Biden, the first lady, told President Emmanuel Macron of France at the White House state dinner last week that she and her husband are ready for his re-election campaign, according to two people with knowledge of the discussion. President Biden then joined the French president and the first lady in a playful toast.
It was a lighthearted moment and Mr. Biden still intends to make a formal decision about whether he will run again after the holiday season but the fact that the Bidens were willing to signal to an important foreign ally about the presidents plans hints at how committed they are to a second term. The interaction also offered a window into the thinking of Dr. Biden, who has been held up as a decisive voice in her husbands deliberations.
The Democratic Party is anxiously awaiting an announcement from Mr. Biden, 80, whose age has become an uncomfortable issue for him and his party as polls show that many Americans consider him too old to run again.
The conversation on Thursday evening began as Dr. Biden held court at the head table, which included Mr. Macron; his wife, Brigitte; several French officials; Democratic activists; and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The first lady, an exercise devotee, told the group that fitness helps clear her head, especially when shes on the campaign trail.

(4,439 posts)1. Shoot. I know 75/80 year olds that are more fit and active than people 30 years their junior
We need Biden's experience. He's tough, too, yet empathetic. I am so happy and thankful that Biden is our President right now, I could jump up and down.

(51,611 posts)3. Earlier on MSNBC one of the anchors or pundits said
that it is likely he will run, especially after tonight's victory. There was encouragement on this issue. Lawrence O'Donnell remarked that FDR was the last president who was able to make full use of his wins while Johnson blew it. They were saying what I've been saying since 2018...Biden is experienced, even and NORMAL. We need that, especially after tRump.
