Trump attacks reporter after she revealed his 2024 adviser thinks 'the magic is gone'
Source: Independent UK
Donald Trump has attacked a New York Magazine reporter as a wack job after she revealed that a member of his own 2024 campaign believes the magic is gone for the former president.
Throughout the Christmas period, the one-term president has gone on a series of un-festive rants on his Truth Social platform, fuming about everything from the January 6 House committee report to the USs southern border and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The article painted a picture of Mr Trump who is facing calls to be criminally charged over the Capitol riot living in near seclusion at Mar-a-Lago and describing his 2024 campaign as a sad, lonely, thirsty, broken, basically pretend run for reelection.

The advisor, who was not named but works on Mr Trumps current campaign, described Mr Trumps appeal as gone and admitted that you cant get it back.

(5,843 posts)I keep coming back to the part of the J6 investigation regarding taking the mangetometers down and letting people in with weapons.
Everybody keeps focusing on his comment, "They're not here to hurt ME," but the real story is that so many of these armed assholes were outside of the perimeter rather than inside, near the stage, making his crowd look so much smaller.
His ego couldn't take the hit. He wanted heavily armed people to fill out the crowd for the pictures.

(35,687 posts)Totally makes sense. He behaved similarly when in his previous inauguration, he lied about the number of people showing up.
Real sensitive point with this jerk.

Its not there. In this business, you can have it and have it so hot and it can go overnight and its gone and you cant get it back, they said.
I think were just seeing its gone. The magic is gone.

(19,565 posts)Donald Trump was calling from Mar-a-Lago. It was a Monday afternoon in the middle of December. He was at his desk in what is known as 45 Office, a room on the second floor, above what is known as the Donald J. Trump Grand Ballroom, 20,000 square feet festooned with 16 sedan-size crystal chandeliers and what he claims to be $7 million of gold leaf.
Members of the Mar-a-Lago Club, who pay $200,000 initiation fees and annual fees of $14,000, may use the space, at an additional cost, for important occasions that inspire, enchant, and exceed every expectation. At the galas and bat mitzvahs and weekend weddings, Trump often wanders in. How could he resist a room like this? He smiles and waves. He joins groomsmen for photos. He steps onto the dance floor with the bride. Dark suit jacket, no tie, shirt unbuttoned, red MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN hat on his head. He tilts his face to the strobe lights and pumps his fists in the air. Sometimes he grabs a microphone and gives a speech. He knows what the people who show up here want.
It was in that optimistic spirit, 28 days ago, that the former president, impeached and voted out of office and impeached again, amid multiple state and federal investigations, under threat of indictment and arrest, on the verge of a congressional-committee verdict that would recommend four criminal charges to the Feds over his incitement of a mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol and threatened to hang his vice-president in a failed attempt to stop the certification of the 2020 election results, announced his third presidential campaign. Since then, he has barely set foot outside the perimeter of Mar-a-Lago. For 28 days, in fact, he has not left the state of Florida at all.
He is sensitive about this. He does not like what it suggests. So he does not accept the premise. Sometimes I dont even stay at Mar-a-Lago, he told me. What do you mean you dont stay there, I asked. Where do you stay? I stay here, he said, but I am outside of Mar-a-Lago quite a bit. Im always largely outside of Mar-a-Lago at meetings and various other things and events. Im down in Miami. I go to Miami, I go to different places in Florida.
What he means when he says Miami is that his SUV rolls down the driveway, past the pristine lawn set for croquet and through the Secret Service checkpoint at the gate, for the two-hour trip to another piece of Trump real estate, the Trump National in Doral, about eight miles from the airport in Miami-Dade County. There, he meets regularly with an impressive, ideologically diverse range of policy wonks, diplomats, and political theorists for conversations about the global economy and military conflicts and constitutional law and Im kidding. He goes there to play golf. He just goes, plays golf, comes back, and fucks off. He has retreated to the golf course and to Mar-a-Lago, one adviser said. His world has gotten much smaller. His world is so, so small.

(16,426 posts)It is indeed a brilliant article, and I learned a lot from it. The part about his wanting to be in the movie business and his fascination with the movie "Sunset Boulevard" was all new to me, for example.
. But this is the part that really jumped out at me:
I didn't know that NBC killed his contract for The Apprentice over that comment about rapists coming over the border, but it explains so much. When he lost that show, he lost a major avenue for getting his narcissistic needs met, and what was left? Running for potus, and then being potus! When he lost in 2020, he really had nothing left. This really explains a lot to me about why he became desperate and unhinged enough to go to so much trouble trying to change the outcome.
I found this article to be fascinating, and I have no trouble believing that he's as broken and pathetic as the author describes him.

(16,426 posts)It's easy for us to scoff at the idea that he ever had any "magic." After all, it never worked on us. But there's no denying that he had something that worked on a lot of people. He never would have gotten past the primaries, much less won the general election otherwise.
It's fun to make snarky jokes and all, but there was a time when he was attracting large crowds to his rallies, enthusiastic crowds who hung on his every word and gave him the adoration that narcissists like him crave. That adoration was like a drug for him, while it lasted. But it's been gradually drying up, and it's at the point now where even he can't avoid being aware of it. And he wants it back! He NEEDS it back. As a narcissist, he needs that adoration the way addicts need their next fix, and for him it's not just a matter of finding a dealer and some cash. There are no dealers for his drug, and he is starting to panic.
I think it was a huge shock to him when the announcement of his 2024 election bid fell so flat. Along with whatever other reasons he has for running (like trying to avoid prosecution for his crimes), I think he saw it as a pathway to more stadiums full of adoring fans and more fixes of the drug he misses so much. But, aside from whatever few diehard loyalists he has left, the country reacted to the announcement with the equivalent of a giant shrug, and I think that just about killed him (not literally, but in an emotional sense.
As much as he likes to complain about "haters," the hardest thing for a narcissist to accept is not hate, but indifference. He's getting a ton of both these days, and I think he's finding it incredibly hard to deal with and responding with narcissistic rage.

(5,810 posts)The emperor really is naked as a jaybird in the springtime. Some of us knew this from the git-go. Others had to get fed up with his tall tales and self aggrandizement to see the cracks developing. Finally, after he left DC, even some of his faithful began to see him in a different light. People like DeSantis have begun their rise, funneling the energy away from tRump. We knew it would happen sooner or later. Apparently tRump didnt get the memo that the adoring masses (except for a few die hard believers) have pulled up the tent and moved the circus toward more exciting possibilities. They see a younger, better equipped candidate in DeSantis. tRump looks old, bloated and is damaged goods. He has not figured this out yet, so expect more pitiful, flaccid attempts to rebuild his brand. It wont work but hell die trying.
