Storm brings gusty winds, rain and snow to California

Source: AP

today

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The first in a week of storms brought gusty winds, rain and snow to California on Tuesday, starting in the north and spreading southward.

There were numerous reports of roadway flooding and downed trees and branches, the National Weather Service said.

Winter storm warnings were issued for the Sierra Nevada, where motorists were advised that the combination of winds and snow could make travel hazardous.

The greater Lake Tahoe area and Mono County were warned to expect heavy snow with wind gusts around 50 mph (80 kph), and up to 100 mph (161 kph) along Sierra ridgetops. Lake Tahoe was expected to have waves that could capsize small vessels.

I've been thinking for the past year or so, temps have been rising quicker than expected, ice is melting faster, and the projections scientists made regarding global warming may be falling apart to some extent. I don't think they probably really know, long-term, how it's going to affect weather patterns. We have multiple models, but we human beings have yet to actually experience something like this. Yes, seas and temps will continue to rise, but I think it's going to be difficult to predict droughts, deluges, giant storms, etc.

I do hope we head in some other direction than long-term drop in overall rainfall for the western U.S., not to mention other areas of the globe forecast to experience the same thing.

Some of the traffic lights along Grand Ave. in Oakland were out today. We coped.

I hope the wind isn't too bad, but this is exactly what we need. Esp. snow in the Sierra. That's where we get our water for the rest of the year. This is what winters should be like, and I hope it keeps up until all the reservoirs are full to the brim.
