WASHINGTON, Dec 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. state of North Carolina will not charge former Republican President Donald Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows with voter fraud, the state's Justice Department said on Friday.
In April, North Carolina removed Meadows from the voter roll after state authorities said they were investigating his voter registration. Meadows has previously echoed Trump's false claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.
"After a thorough review, my office has concluded that there is not sufficient evidence to bring charges against either of them (Meadows and his wife) in this matter," North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein said in a statement.....................

(2,801 posts)out of me about this. It just really p'o's me that there is NO accountability and no justice. There really are two Americas, and the one we live in is NOT the one we want to live in. We work and work and work... at our jobs, in our communities, to get out the votes, to get behind candidates, and we never seem to get ahead. I'm so sick and tired of it. I hate ending the year on a bummer... but this just takes the cake.

(22,656 posts)He's an idiot if he thinks people won't remember this and the current buzz is that's his plan.
Even if he offered up a half way reasonable excuse, I still wouldn't vote for him. What a disappointment!

(160,542 posts)so common around Republicans.
So disappointed! Thanks for sharing the information, LMSP. Hearing something that awful in the morning tells me the day will get a lot better! It has nowhere else to go!
I'm still having a hard time accepting his party affiliation. He reminds me of that nasty little Republican who loved Hitler so much, and just lost his first bid for re-election.
Happy New Year!

(22,656 posts)"reading the room" as the saying goes. He has a great chance of getting elected by Republicans and Unaffiliateds if he does run.
The Democrats in NC are lost like Hansel and Gretal right now. It wouldn't take much to get us to snack sized and finally do us in.
Glad I didn't completely ruin your day!
Happy New Year to you, too!

(17,918 posts)NC Republicans wouldn't vote for him if he walked on water then turned around and changed the water to wine. But they would vote for Satan if he had an R after his name.

(22,656 posts)North Carolina officially only recognizes three political parties: the Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican parties.
You can be unaffiliated and vote in the General but if you want to vote in a primary you have to pick one of the three recognized parties. You'd be surprised. There's a lot of purple here. ❤️

(17,918 posts)Charlotte, the Triad, Raleigh Durham, sure. If you're in Forsyth County / W-S it sure feels purple. Blue even. But drive a little ways down I-40 or 285 towards Statesville or Lexington respectively and you're in a whole different political world. Those people in counties that went for Trump 2 and 3 to 1 haven't been and certainly won't be voting for Josh Stein no matter who he choses not to prosecute.
We spent a decade in western NC. Our county flipped from NC-11 to Foxx's NC-5 district and then back again depending on redistricting. After Shuler, our choices were limited in the ruby red west. Thank god for Boone proper or we would have lived in political hell.

(17,918 posts)This will mean serious trouble for Stein's reelection if he runs again in 2024. He barely won in 2016 and 202 by tenths of a percentage point. Pissing off your base is no way to win reelection.
