Facebook and Instagram to end Trump's suspension from platforms

Last edited Wed Jan 25, 2023, 08:22 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: NBC News

Former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts are being reinstated, the social media giant Meta announced Wednesday — a little more than two years after he was suspended from the platforms over incendiary posts on the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

Trump’s accounts will be reinstated “in the coming weeks” and come with “new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses,” Nick Clegg, president, global affairs at Meta, said in a statement. Meta owns Facebook and Instagram.

Those guardrails will include "heightened penalties for repeat offenses — penalties which will apply to other public figures whose accounts are reinstated from suspensions related to civil unrest under our updated protocol. In the event that Mr. Trump posts further violating content, the content will be removed and he will be suspended for between one month and two years, depending on the severity of the violation," Clegg said on the company's website.

Trump celebrated the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social. "FACEBOOK, which has lost Billions of Dollars in value since 'deplatforming' your favorite President, me, has just announced that they are reinstating my account. Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution!" he wrote.

Former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts are being reinstated, the social media giant Meta announced Wednesday — a little more than two years after he was suspended from the platforms over incendiary posts on the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

Nick Clegg, president of global affairs at Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, said Trump’s accounts will be reinstated “in the coming weeks” and come with “new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses.”

A spokesperson for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The move comes weeks after the timeframe Facebook gave itself to re-evaluate the 2021 decision, and weeks after Republicans — many of whom have been critical of Facebook’s decision — regained control of the House of Representatives.

These people won't see general pop or eat with other inmates. They will just live comfortably in a nice cell away from others.

Why would they get anything special? There's just common men and women, they won't get any special placement. Prison will not be a picnic for them, I can assure you.

That one imprisoned insurrection dude recently tried to change the channel to Fox and got the shit beat out of him.

horrified at the prospect of the depth he will dig himself an indefensible hole. Prosecutors already have tons of his spiel to use against him but this will increase dramatically with his access to these two platforms-- both of which I have forever avoided.

He'll be using Twitter again by June. May it only hurt him more.

So vile, that Nicolle Wallace wouldn’t read/show it, and said it would put racists to shame.

And THIS is what’s being allowed back on Facebook and Insta? All social discourse is going to hell, thanks to “social” media.

Doing the endless loop BS and now just saying my account is locked. When asked to send a confirmation code to my email address it never shows up. This is the email address that all those birthday notifications etc used to show up on and they act like it's bogus or a hacker.

I have been dropped by Facebook and it was permanent.

Since I am a nobody, it will probably remain permanent.

I signed up for Facebook because I signed up for a writing class and it required enrollment in Facebook.
The class was not any good and I regret signing up.

I never posted anything to Facebook and got a message from them that they would temporarily disable my account.
The only way to remove the disable would be to upload my picture.
At the time and still today, I was undergoing cancer treatment, and did not want to post my picture, because I believed it was none of their business.
So they permanently disabled my account forever because I did not post my picture by a certain time.

Facebook are real jerks.

He knows tfg is a money maker. Unfortunately, he's also a threat to the peace. Someone is going to get killed because tfg can't help stirring the pot. Greed is a dangerous drug.
