Former Memphis officers charged in Tyre Nichols' death

The five officers fired for their involvement in the beating and death of Tyre Nichols have been booked into the Shelby County Jail Thursday morning, according to online records.
The officers are charged with the following:
Justin Smith Two counts of official misconduct, official oppression, second-degree murder, aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated kidnapping.
Tadarrius Bean Second- degree murder, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct and official oppression.
Demetrius Haley Second degree murder, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct and official oppression.
Emmitt Martin III Second degree murder, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct and official oppression.
Desmond Mills Jr. Second degree murder, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct and official oppression.

convict them and lock them up in gen pop.
maybe that will help keep other cops in line

Criminals have rights too.

(7,412 posts)As law enforcement struggles more and more to recruit quality applicants, these last couple of years are going to make them have to continually lower standards in order to get warm bodies in the seats.
We will continue to see more violence and more corruption unfortunately.

(108,234 posts)Video of the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols, the 29-year-old man who died three days after a traffic stop by police, is set to be released by Memphis officials Friday evening.
Nichols was hospitalized in critical condition and died three days after Memphis police officers stopped him Jan. 7. Details about what occurred between Nichols and the officers have been sparse; police initially said that Nichols fled on foot during the reckless driving stop and that a "confrontation" occurred in an effort to detain him.
However, Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis said on CNN early Friday that an investigation and review of available camera footage could not "substantiate the reckless driving" claim.
"It doesnt mean that something didnt happen. But theres no proof. The cameras didnt pick up, she said.
