8 dolphins dead after washing ashore on New Jersey beaches
Source: ABC News
A pod of eight dolphins died after being stranded on two beaches in New Jersey on Tuesday, according to an animal rescue and rehabilitation center.
The sea creatures washed up on 50th and 52nd Street beaches, according to Sea Isle City officials, who warned the public not to approach the dolphins, where police and state workers attempted to aid the animals.
According to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, two of the dolphins died on one of the beaches, while the organization's veterinarian euthanized the other six after an assessment determined that the dolphins' health was failing.
"The decision was made to humanely euthanize the dolphins to prevent further suffering, as returning them to the ocean would have only prolonged their inevitable death," Marine Mammal Stranding Center said in a statement posted on Facebook.

(6,085 posts)And our Washington resident Orca pods are dying earlier and earlier due to inbreeding. There is nothing they can do about it. This all goes back a long way to when these fucking Sea World bastards began taking these animals and putting them in zoos and out of their pods. It all has a cascading result and here we are.
Even if Orcas can be brought from a pod in Alaska, they would turn around and go back home. We are destroying life all around us.

(9,008 posts)100 ... 200 years ago, 300 years ago, did sea creatures wash up on shore to die in similar numbers that we see today? These days, we see an awful lot of whales, dolphins, and other creatures beach themselves. I suspect the answer is ... this is a recent phenomenon.
Are we current humans to blame for most or all of these beachings?
At this rate, I wonder how much longer sea life will hold out? We do seem to be destroying our beautiful planet. The only one we have.

(913 posts)but from what I have read, the vast majority of these incidents are a result of fishing gear.
