He 'can resume his life': Case against Andrew Gillum dropped

Source: Tallahassee Democrat

Jeff Burlew William L. Hatfield May16, 2023

A federal judge overseeing the Andrew Gillum corruption case has granted federal prosecutors' request to dismiss charges against the former Tallahassee mayor and Democratic gubernatorial nominee and his political mentor.

The government did not comment on the move, which came after the Tallahassee Democrat reported that jurors overwhelmingly favored acquitting the two and urged prosecutors to drop the case.

Judge Allen Winsor issued an order completely dismissing the case making the move official. He canceled a previously scheduled hearing set for Wednesday................

The FBI investigation was active and had been publicized months before the primary.

He won the primary because Jeff Greene didn't use his millions to attack him and he was the "progressive" in a 5-person Democratic primary.

His campaign was embarrassingly incompetent. I ran a local party office that hosted his campaign locally. We waited a full month after Florida's super-late primary (August 27) for his field organizers to show up. They showed up at the same time as Florida's general election mail ballots were being delivered to voters.

and boatloads of charisma. He lost to DS by only 40,000 votes (similar to Bill Nelson loss to Sen Voldemort).

That same election, more than 60% of voters approved a constitutional amendment to restore voting rights to returning citizens.

Never made any sense to me.

I remember how excited we all were when we voted for him, thinking what an amazing governor he was going to be. At first we were going to vote for Dem Gwen Graham, barely knew who Gillum was - then we heard Andrew speak. He was amazing. He had us at hello.

I don’t know that he is ready to jump right in to the next race as the front runner. That said, Marion Barry was able to come back.

I have to confess I was unaware of many details of Gillum's misadventure with Dyson until I read some things today. Just had a broad outline of it.

That's gonna be a fairly high hurdle to clear. But this is America, baby, where anything is possible. Just look at Trump!
