MIAMI (AP) Four members of a Florida family were convicted Wednesday of selling a toxic industrial bleach as a fake COVID-19 cure through their online church.
A federal jury in Miami found Mark Grenon, 65, and his sons, 37-year-old Jonathan, 35-year-old Joseph and 29-year-old Jordan, guilty of conspiring to defraud the United States and deliver misbranded drugs, according to court records. That charge carries up to five years in prison. Their sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 6.
The Grenons represented themselves but declined to speak during the two-day trial, the Miami Herald reported. After the jury delivered its verdict, Joseph Grenon said they would be appealing.
Prosecutors called the Grenons con men and snake-oil salesmen and said the Bradenton familys Genesis II Church of Health and Healing sold $1 million worth of their so-called Miracle Mineral Solution. In videos, it was pitched as a cure for 95% of known diseases, including COVID-19, Alzheimers, autism, brain cancer, HIV/AIDS and multiple sclerosis, prosecutors said.

(52,877 posts)This crap has been around far longer than COVID and it never turns out well.
About 15 years ago these particular individuals were selling MMS enemas as The Cure For Autism. They were publishing photos online saying the tube worms the kid expelled shortly after getting an MMS enema were the cause of autism. Problem is, these worms were actually the childs intestinal lining, which slid out in one piece after it was bleached to death.

(12,061 posts)Look at the stuff they already believe! Convincing them you have a miracle cure is easy, because they WANT to believe, and for them that's enough. No reference to the Real World.

(4,741 posts)That their crocks in frocks have brainwashed them since birth that faith is superior to reason, and that if facts contradict what they believe, then to spurn the facts and double-down on the belief.
Not a surprise, then, that they are constantly falling for every kind of scam imaginable.
One of these idiots even whined to me at work, "Why don't you ever have this happen to you? I'm a good person who goes to church, you're not, but I'm the one they try to rob."
"I know this will shock you, but I'm a good person--probably a better one than you, at that. And I don't get conned because I haven't had a preacher telling me all of my life to turn off my brain and just believe whatever I'm told. You have, and you'll keep getting ripped off, as long as you keep thinking faith is better than reality. Deal with your choices, rather than annoying everyone with your whining about it, when you won't do what it takes to stop it."
