WTF? It's like we don't even exist unless there's complaint about how red we allegedly are or that we have too many Senators or you want to come here for vacation.

(100,966 posts)And when the test legislation they forced through last year bites people real hard, they'll blame MT Dems for not doing anything.
ETA: And last time I checked, there was a substantial Native American population here that are having a hard time being able to vote, among other horrible things still being done. And I know a fair number of people in all those other groups too.

(7,583 posts)there could be a real chance to pick up seats here. And we do have American Indian reservations as well as AmerIndians off the reservation who could be ready to register to vote, if they haven't already.

(842 posts)so it's targeting the smallest demographic in hopes to move us to a win?
How does this make any sense at all? I mean, some company can do what they want, and it helps, but really? A very poor allocation of money for impact, IMHO

(167,129 posts)From the OP -
So what is essentially the "base" of the Democratic party are "the smallest demographic"?
The areas that they mention (and note the OP article says "initial") are swing districts.
For example, Mary Peltola was the first Native Alaskan (D) eletected to the single at-large Congressional seat. She managed to get there because of the-then new "ranked choice" primary and general election. She will need that extra turnout to maintain that seat.
So there is a need for that extra turnout to keep swing Democrats in and possibly flip seats that were lost in 2022 (notably in NY).

(842 posts)why not go for the big demographic, big win with the money?
In the last election I ran with, 60% were blue collar, rust belt people. Take labels (DvR) aside, they would vote with us, at least some of the time - especially abortion and unions. Focusing on the demographic above would be a waste (IMHO) for so few votes
Not arguing (with all due respects, BRDS) but we need numbers to show up, and I don't see how this narrow focus gets us there...

(167,129 posts)to reach out to some of those communities.
One of the issues that has and continued to impact making those inroads, has been a near-complete RW control of the media that blasts misinformation 24/7 over all the little radio stations that blanket those areas. However actually "showing up in person" (vs throwing ads directed to those areas) is probably the best way to expand the outreach, which is what Fetterman did with his not one, but TWO "67- County Listening Tours".
I did just find this interesting article this morning about the new NC Democratic Party Chair - who is a mere 25 years old and who wants to address that gap - https://www.npr.org/2023/09/06/1196635417/democratic-party-north-carolina-anderson-clayton-gen-z-voters-rural-politics
I think the future is with this new generation of politically savvy GenZers, who grew up with a more expansive worldview than any among the boomers, GenX or even Millennials could ever have achieved.

(616 posts)What about trying to turn younger white rural voters as well? God knows we need them, too. And they need Democrats to survive this corporate raping we're watching now.
