Arkansas governor seeks exemption on travel and security records, backs off other changes

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Republicans in the Legislature on Tuesday backed off a widespread plan to restrict the public's access to records about Sanders' administration, but they said they will still seek limits on what can be released about the GOP governor's travel and security.

Republican lawmakers filed legislation exempting release of the travel and security records after an outcry over a proposal to significantly scale back the state's Freedom of Information Act. A wide range of critics that included media groups, transparency advocates and some conservatives had complained the initial legislation would erode the 1967 law protecting the public's access to government records and meetings.

“The security of our governor and her family should be the top priority for us,” Senate President Bart Hester said at a news conference at the state Capitol with Senate Republicans.

The legislation would allow the state to wall off details about the security provided Sanders and other constitutional officers, including who travels on the State Police airplane and the cost of individual trips. Sanders is seeking the limits as State Police is being sued by an attorney and blogger who has accused the agency of illegally withholding records about the governor's travel and security.

How it is that the FOIA has not come under a massive assault by the gop and it turns out it was just a matter of messaging and the organized whipping up of their base into a terrorist organization. Its beautiful that their fucking is excuse to do so is we are so fucked up you must be also...so we are afraid.

When will Dems and the rest of this country realize we are in a fight for OUR very Democracy the same concept that motivated this Country decades ago to send millions of it citizens to storm a beach and invade a continent to protect that very concept for other humans...now we need to protect it here and that is not hyperbole. We have clearly seen who the gop is, what it has become and where it wants to go.

GOP love russia because that is what they want. russia is a utopian system as far as they are concerned. To be able to do with impunity like putin does is the goal. When you hear the name gop you should think "Proud Boys" or one of the other white nationalist groups they have courted to help with their destruction of Democracy.

We have a little over 13 months to get our shit together.

Arrests of the gop needs to happen now. DT needs to be shut down now not allowed to threaten and bully the gop to impeachment so that in the coming election they can equate DT w/ Biden and say "both got impeached, there is no difference between the 2" and the undecided, uneducated voter will buy it hook, line and sinker. If you think that there is no evidence so its not going to go anywhere you don't understand. It is clearer now why they did not allow any evidence in the 1st impeachment this again just goes to being able to equate Biden and DT. When a voter says "They had no evidence on Biden they can turn around now and say "neither did DT" and as long as he is still fighting in a courtroom as he will be next year the 2nd impeachments is of no political value. Plus GOP has already done a fantastic job of muddying up the reality on Hunter Biden so that allows them to equate the both DT /Bidens children.

Remember what DT said to the GA official, "Just say there is an issue and let me and the republicans handle the rest." Facts do not matter. This all about winning the 10 word sound bite and endless chyron scrolls, all about perception from front to back, not reality.

The taxpayers have a right to know who is paying for her travel - post-travel. This has NOTHING to do with her security. And the other question is, why is her family traveling with her on business and why are the taxpayers paying for that?
