House Republicans are in 'civil war' amid Biden impeachment probe, looming shutdown: Jeffries
Source: ABC News
September 17, 2023, 11:22 AM House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries argued on Sunday that his Republicans colleagues are "in the middle of a civil war" over the best way forward amid a newly launched impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, an ongoing spending fight and another looming shutdown of the federal government. "Civil war has the following attributes: chaos, dysfunction, and extremism. The House Republican civil war is hurting hardworking American taxpayers and limiting our ability to be able to solve problems on their behalf," Jeffries told ABC "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl, in an exclusive interview. "It's unfortunate. But as House Democrats, we're going to continue to try to find common ground with the other side of the aisle," Jeffries said, adding: "Hopefully the House Republicans will come along so that we can work to make sure we are funding the government." Jeffries also said the White House "will continue to cooperate" with the impeachment inquiry "because there is nothing to hide." 1. I love watching the repig party implode from within,
as Democrats, we don't need to do anything, let's just sit back and enjoy the shit show that was once a political party.

6. we do need to do something..amplify
"Republicans are eating their own"..spread the message far and wide..
I have waited a long time for two things to happen...(1) my ex son-in-law gets hit by a train and (2) the Republican Party self-destructs...one down, one to go... |

9. Absolutely amplify,
but they're doing a great job at amplifying it themselves.
![]() I'm sure they'd rather the meltdown would be kept behind closed doors, but MAGAt's like Gaetz, Boebert, Greene, etc would rather it be public, which only makes it funnier to watch. |

10. It is entertaining to watch them implode, but on the other hand, they are ruining our country...
... they are likely to shut down the government... they are going back on the budget deal .... they do not want to govern, they want the government to fail ... pathetic..

11. I cannot argue with that,
they would rather burn the country down than try to govern responsibly, and that is pathetic and I'm hoping beyond hope that they pay for it come election time.

3. Reminds me of people living long time together who get married for "commitment"
They get married, and then break up soon after. Republicans are thinking "We need more party unity, let's shutdown government and impeach Biden!" It will work about as well. |

5. The previous civil war ended slavery.
This time, Kevin can end his slavery voluntarily.
The price of his position is utter disgrace, and the consequences are entirely disastrous for all but a handful of people, one of whose hands are full of naughty bits. Disastrous for his whackadoodle party and the nation. And nobody has the bits enough to call for a vote to vacate, nor on the fantasy "impeachment". Ain't no bits at all on that side of the aisle. They just like to whack doodles. Very, very sick. |

19. He dug himself a pit and climbed on down. He ain't coming out without being filthy.
I can't imagine McK coming out of this situation with any modicum of honor. He's damned if he does or doesn't.
They are all of the same cloth. Guess the only somewhat honorable (R) Romney has taken his version of the high road. |

and then there's my all time favorite line in The Hunt for Red October..."You arrogant ass, you've killed us"...equally applicable to the Republican Party in the throes of self-destruction..

8. Because the impeachment isn't based on any real crime or misconduct.
Republicans want to impeach him because Trump was impeached for actual, specific crimes. The reason they're fighting is because they all have different ideas of what bullshit excuse to use.

implode! It's everything they've worked against!

21. I love the fact that Republican are fighting over this stuff!
It tells me that at least some of them are not in favor of all the crazy stuff the MAGA Caucus (my nickname for the so-called "Liberty" Caucus) wants to do. This is a good thing, and if there are enough of them who oppose the crazy stuff, it could turn out to be a VERY good thing. That gives me some glimmerings of hope that that the MAGA faction will not prevail in everything they want to do.
Fight amongst yourselves all you want, Repubs! When you've finished beating each other up, the Dems will be ready to pick up the pieces and get some real work done. |
