Tens of thousands protest in Indonesia

Source: Al Jazeera English

Workers demand a higher minimum wage and an end to outsourcing as unrest in southeast Asia's largest economy amplifies.

Tens of thousands of workers have gathered outside the presidential palace in Jakarta in Indonesia, demanding higher wages, better working conditions and that more economic growth trickle down to the working class.

The demonstrations on Thursday come a day after a governor in the capital Jakarta agreed to raise the minimum wage by 44 per cent but protesters said they wanted government to provide better health care and pensions and wanted to ensure that the courts do not over turn their decision.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen, reporting from the capital, said "tens of thousands of workers have been marching through the city centre and have reached the presidential palace  ... they have been demonstrating for weeks for a higher minimum wage, and they have been demanding to get rid of a much hated outsourcing policy.

The Indonesian people are striking for the rights that Americans have slowly given away to the radical right wing over the last 30 years. We continue to allow corporate entities, chambers of commerce, right wing media outlets and wealthy trust fund misanthropes to warp our national cohesion with truckloads of our own money- stolen from the American people. Exorbidant CEO pay checks. Targeted tax relief for the wealthy. Bail-out money and factory farm subsidies. (so many more sources that it makes one sick to think how these vampires have arranged to legally steal our tax dollars to finance lives of liesure and power) All parked in tax island havens, away from silly things like investment and job creation; they would rather play the game of the super wealthy criminal class and continue their capital strike to punish the United States for having the temerity to re-elect a president that has shown a willingness to stand up to them. The people to which American jobs were out-sourced are experiencing the same tyranny of the greedy class- but some Indonesians seem to understand who the real enemies of liberty and fairness are; the same people that Jesus admonished about camels and needle eyes. The ones that the right wing see as "bootstrappers" and "winners" and 'builders of things'. I hope American Teabaggerss come to thier senses soon and start to recognize the very real threat posed to them by the power and accumulated wealth possesed by a very small number of very bad peole. Hopefully the Indonesian people demonstrating in the OP are able to get thier voices heard before the goons of the wealthy show-up with their guns and badges (just for their own protection, mind you) to remind them of who's REALLY in charge.

This story should be read by any DUer that is interested in the newly created economic classes in the countries that have been doing the bulk of American out-sourcing.
