President Obama: Thanksgiving a time to unite after ‘passionate’ election

Source: The Hill

President Obama urged Americans to remember “what ties us together” after a hard-fought election year, in his Thanksgiving Day address.

(snip)
“As a nation, we’ve just emerged from a campaign season that was passionate, noisy, and vital to our democracy. But it also required us to make choices – and sometimes those choices led us to focus on what sets us apart instead of what ties us together; on what candidate we support instead of what country we belong to,” said Obama.

“Thanksgiving is a chance to put it all in perspective – to remember that, despite our differences, we are, and always will be, Americans first and foremost,” he continued.

(snip)
“When our brothers and sisters are in need, we roll up our sleeves and get to work – not for the recognition or the reward, but because it’s the right thing to do,” said Obama. “Here in America, we rise or fall together, as one nation and one people. That’s something to be grateful for – today and every day.”

We won.
Our President was approved by the voters and it is now time to kick the Republicans to the curb and proceed to implement strong progressive policies.

Eliminate the Bush tax cuts
Single payer health care
Address climate change

Every time the obstructionist Republicans interfere with what has to be done, they need to be punished and marginalized.

I will NOT get along with the right. Not ever. They are getting revenge on the people who voted for Obama, business firing employees because Obama was elected or the big wigs found out employees voted for him, etc. Mr. President, I love and respect you, but OH HELL NO!

"The Washington Generals are an American exhibition basketball team, best known for their spectacular losing streak in exhibition games against the Harlem Globetrotters.
...
The Generals provided deliberately ineffective opposition as a foil for the Globetrotters' comedy routines.
...
"From 1953 until 1995, the Generals played exhibitions against the Globetrotters, winning only six games, the last in 1971, and losing more than 13,000. It was as the New Jersey Reds that the Generals' last win came in a game against the Globetrotters. On January 5, 1971, the Globetrotters lost a game in Martin, Tennessee, in overtime to the Reds. It was Klotz himself who sank the winning basket for a 100-99 score that ended the Globetrotters' 2,499-game winning streak.

in response to Obama's holiday message on Roadrunner's homepage. I keep it as my homepage to access my RR email and the story has page after page of comments about how we're going to hell over his reelection and all the usual hard-right, tea-hadist crap. Same with the brief story about Michelle Obama, the girls, and Bo the dog, receiving the White House Christmas tree. It's been what, three weeks, and they just won't ease up. I was heart broken in 2000 and 2004, but I managed to cope and move on. Here our President is extending wishes for the holiday and our families, and they just can't shut up and be thankful for other things in their lives other than political differences.
