Jan. 6 rioter known as 'QAnon Shaman' running for Congress

Source: WDBJ-TV Roanoke/CNN News Source

Published: Nov. 12, 2023 at 2:01 AM EST

(CNN) - The man known as the “QAnon Shaman” who gained notoriety for breaking into the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack is running for Congress.

Jacob Chansley has filed paperwork to run as a libertarian in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. As a Jan. 6 rioter, he wore a horned fur hat and red, white and blue face paint and sat inside the Senate chamber.

Chansley pleaded guilty to a felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding in relation to the Capitol attack. He was sentenced to 41 months in prison in November 2021 and was released to a halfway house last March.

Though he previously called himself the “QAnon Shaman,” Chansley has since disavowed the QAnon movement, the Associated Press reports.

Reconstruction post Civil War, with the US Military an army of occupation and civilian courts suspended, many were excluded or removed from office by military authority under General Grant. If this clown doesn't qualify, no one does.

The article says "the Republican lawmaker who currently represents the congressional district, announced in October she would not be running for re-election" so the seat is open. As a Republican, he'd probably have an easy time fundraising from the MAGA crowd.

The Republicans running so far:
Abe Hamadeh (failed MAGA 2022 Attorney General candidate)
Blake Masters (failed MAGA 2022 Senate candidate)
Anthony Kern (MAGA 2020 fake elector)
and possibly Trent Franks (held the seat until a 2018 sex scandal where he solicited staffers to have his baby for money)

This is a very safe R district that usually only has a token Dem on the ballot (we didn't have any in 2022).
Let the horned pelt Nazi run as a Libertarian - if we're lucky he splits the MAGA vote enough for a Dem to squeak in, but I honestly doubt it.

a felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding in relation to the Capitol attack. Sounds like he participated in insurrection to me.

According to the 14th amendment of the US Constitution, he is disqualified:

"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

He was a Sailor in the Navy and has taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution. I would like to see this go to trail to test the law. But it probably won't.

‘QAnon Shaman’ rioter will eat organic food, while most prisons and jails have reputation for serving food that is unhealthy

By Nicole Chavez and Christina Carrega, CNN
Updated 3:59 PM EST, Tue February 9, 2021

CNN — As trays with bologna sandwiches and canned fruit are being served to millions of people in America’s prisons and jails, US Capitol rioter and so-called “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley is only eating organic food while he awaits trial.

Last week, a federal judge ordered that Chansley should be given organic food after several requests and an apparent hunger strike, claiming non-organic food was against his religion and sickened him. Chansley’s demand and the subsequent judge’s decision exuded privilege in a system that has a reputation of serving inmates bland and sometimes unsafe meals, advocates say.

“The fact that this man is given this kind of preference shows the double standard in the criminal justice system, and in the detention system,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, an iconic civil rights activist and founder of the National Action Network.

Chansley, the man seen in photos dressed in horns, fur headdress and face paint inside the US Capitol during the January 6 riot, was first detained at the Federal Correctional Institution Phoenix in Arizona, where he had been fed organic food, according to court documents. When Chansley was moved to the nation’s capital to face his charges, the DC Jail denied his request to eat only organic food because the jail’s contracted food providers did not offer those type of meals.

And he also is an insurrectionist who tried to overthrow the government he now wants to be involved in.

But the 14th Amendment will put a stop to this.

It was pretty obvious something was wrong with his brain when he pulled his shaman stunt on J6, and it's still obvious as his imagined campaign is going nowhere.

If he was running as a Republican, I might be concerned. If he wants to run on the Libertarian ticket, let him go for it. The most he can do is take a few votes from the Republican candidate.
