BY NICK ROBERTSON - 11/25/23 7:17 PM ET

Derek Chauvin, the ex-Minneapolis police officer who murdered George Floyd, is expected to survive a prison stabbing, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office said Saturday.

Chauvin was stabbed Friday at a federal prison in Tucson, Ariz., The Associated Press first reported. He was seriously injured in the knife attack, the AP said.

A spokesperson for the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office said Chauvin is expected to survive following the attack, NBC News reported.

On Friday, the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) confirmed that a person had been attacked at the Tucson prison at about 12:30 p.m. and was taken to medical facilities. The BOP did not disclose the victim’s identity.

They will have to put him in solitary. It will drive him insane, if he isn’t there already.

He's getting a taste of what he subjected George Floyd to. The horrific 9 minutes 29 seconds of sheer agony stretched out to a life sentence & dying in prison.

He pretty much singlehandedly ignited the biggest wave of anti-police sentiment the country has ever seen; his former colleagues definitely have no love lost for him. I can 100% see the COs in his unit pulling a Willy Wonka "No. Don't. Stop." while he was taking blades – they probably don't want him dead because that would be too much of an administrative hassle, but they absolutely want his time to be extra painful and hellacious.

And frankly, I can't get too worked up about it.

While I don't GENERALLY believe in an eye for an eye, I have VERY little to nonexistent sympathy for this piece of human waste. I have a saying that goes a little like this: "What you do, WILL BE DONE TO YOU..."
I honestly don't think that this is his last shanking or another murder attempt...PO THANG...

If anything, I have some sympathy for the inmate who was wielding the shiv because the bulls inside that prison will make his life even more of a living hell than it is now.

Letting him live in increased terror is an upgrade, IMO. At least until the next stabbing.

I think I could add that I'm categorically, and firmly, 100% against capital punishment. Somehow, I'm able to see this as different, in some self-justifying way that many of us seem so good at.

I also end sentences with prepositions sometimes.

Our prisons have an inexcusable amount of violence. The punishment is confinement, there shouldn’t be extra punishment dished out by the inmates (or guards for that matter).

Chauvin is no more deserving of extrajudicial punishment than any other prisoner. Getting shivved was not part of the sentence.
