A federal inmate was charged Friday with attempted murder in the prison stabbing of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd.

John Turscak stabbed Chauvin 22 times in the law library at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona, with an improvised knife, federal prosecutors said. Turscak, 52, told correctional officers he would’ve killed Chauvin had they not responded so quickly, prosecutors said.

Good that they're charging him with attempted murder, that'll keep in prison for the rest of his life if he isn't already in for a life sentence.

I hope Mr. Chauvin fully recovers, although, how do you fully recover from that mentally, so he can experience the same fear that G. Floyd experienced on that fateful day.

Problem is, I have nothing better. In the days when a person was rooted to a community and moving out would be very bad, one could trust the local community to uphold the sentence.

Now? People move, melt into other communities, we're rootless and there's no local enforcement mechanism.

and a sword he had pulled out of a sculpture of Excalibur in the Stone in George’s garden. His wife hit the guy multiple times with a fireplace poker, and when he went after Olivia, George jumped on his back and held him down until the police came.

People with 20 years in are acutely aware of their release dates. Now he really is never going to get out, and he'll probably be transfered to a higher security, harder time facility. I still think it's a surprising profile for this attack.

If a fellow inmate is willing to serve the rest of his life in prison (this inmate was due for release in 2026) then it would be nearly impossible to detect and prevent.
