Ukraine Withdraws From Position South of Embattled Avdiivka as Kremlin Infantry Advances
Source: Kyiv Post
Ukraine on Friday said it was pulling back from a position on the southern outskirts of the city of Avdiivka, where heavy battles were raging with Russian forces.
"After many months of confrontation, the command decided to withdraw from the Zenit position on the southeastern outskirts of Avdiivka... The decision was made to save personnel and improve the operational situation," Oleksandr Tarnavsky, a Ukrainian general in the east, said on social media.
Russian troops captured a key fortress in the battleground city Avdiivka on Thursday, forcing Ukrainian troops to fall back hundreds of meters through a gauntlet of artillery and mortar fire.
Infantrymen reportedly from 1st Army Corps had by early evening cleared the Cheburashka Zenit defense complex of all resistance, ending weeks of bloody assaults against a Ukrainian bastion of trenches and fortifications on the south-western outskirts of the city.

The russiapublicans are betraying our allies and are to blame for this. As the article states further in, the Ukrainians have an artillery shortage due to lack of U.S.. funding.

(922 posts)A lot of the generals still use old Soviet tactics. Until this war, Ukraine didn't really modernize their forces due to extensive corruption there.

(33,345 posts)I'd read (2 years ago) that Ukraine military had been training with the US and NATO troops prior to the war, and that was a key factor in repelling the initial Russian assault.

(922 posts)Ukraine's military at that time wasn't really modernized. But I have seen some videos from people who are in Ukraine that even still, there are still generals that still use Soviet tactics. Until 2014, it wasn't really modernized and many generals used and still used what they had known in Soviet times. Yes, it is getting better, but again, the change still will take a while. Zaluzhny himself said that the military strategy has to change.
