Fulton County ethics board drops Fani Willis complaints from hearing

A Fulton County ethics watchdog slated to hear complaints against District Attorney Fani Willis (D) on Thursday will no longer do so, according to an updated meeting agenda. The Fulton County Board of Ethics was expected to hear two complaints against Willis after her romance with a special prosecutor on the election interference case involving former President Trump raised concerns of a conflict of interest.
The board determined it does not have jurisdiction over Willis, who is a state constitutional officer in her role, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The Hill requested comment from the Board of Ethics’s secretary and the clerk to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.
Fulton County resident Steven Kramer filed one of the complaints, citing Willis’s relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade and questioning whether she improperly benefited from his hiring. “The extra resources and financial costs for the court and the district attorney’s office, both paid for by Fulton County taxpayers like me, are to deal with this improper relationship,” Kramer wrote in his Feb. 14 complaint.
The other complaint was filed by internet-based talk show host Gregory Mantell, who claimed in a Substack post that Willis has violated “at least six sections and even more subsections” of the Fulton County Ethics Code. The Ethics board inquiry was cheered on by national leaders such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who posted on social media last month that she was looking forward to the hearing.

(3,677 posts)I just added “scumbag traitor” for emphasis. Plus, of course, the media focuses on the relationship between two consenting adults while conveniently minimizing the nature of the charges tRump is being prosecuted for. Funny, that…🙄

(14,408 posts)1. This is not abnormal behaviour for couples. Wade had job (whether promoted by Willis or not) where he could afford to pay for some of the vacation they had together.
2. If this was true, it is hardly an issue about justice being able to be done fairly. It sounds more like a local political issue, if they want to make a deal about it. A misuse of tax payer money, or some such charge.
I don't understand how they conflate a romantic spending spree by an employee on their employer, with creating some unfair bias against the case they are working on together.

(7,794 posts)of the costs to prosecute a super grifter like Trump. They were counting on racism to provide the evidence of illegality.
Just plain naive and lacking the imagination to accept how darkies could trouble their newly rediscovered Jim Crow fantasies.

They totally failed to prove she's some kind of Jezebel.
It was slut shaming, start to finish.
Removing her from the case was only a stalling tactic, anyway. It wouldn't have affected the outcome.

(149,965 posts)It was always pretty much going to be the last resolved. There were 4 who had plea deals so it dropped the number down but I think much of the discussion about handling was that there would probably be separate trials of "groups" of defendants, which would necessarily drag it out.
