Trump asked Elon Musk if he wanted to buy Truth Social

Former president Donald Trump asked Elon Musk last summer whether the billionaire industrialist would be interested in buying Trumps social network Truth Social, according to two people with knowledge of the conversation.
The overture to Musk, whose business empire includes SpaceX, Tesla and the social networking site X, did not lead to a deal. But the conversation, which has not been previously reported, shows the two men have communicated more than was known. The two have had other conversations, too, Trump advisers say, about politics and business.
Among their conversations was a meeting earlier this month in Palm Beach, Fla., where Trump met with Musk and a few high-powered Republican donors, the people said. The subject of that discussion is not clear but, after it was first reported by the New York Times, which noted that the meeting happened while Trump was looking for campaign contributions, the billionaire wrote on X that he is not donating money to either candidate for US President.
Musk, the worlds second-richest man, has increasingly voiced support for conservative ideology on X, including echoing Trumps unverified claims that the Biden administration is, as Musk wrote last week, importing voters and creating a national security threat from unvetted illegal immigrants.

He is having his own financial issues at the moment -
Bank group discussed options to make debt less risky to hold
Talks with tech billionaire cooled earlier this year

A bank group spearheaded by Morgan Stanley held discussions with Elon Musk and his team about refinancing a roughly $12.5 billion debt package that supported the tech billionaires take-private of the social media platform X, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
In talks that faltered earlier this year, certain banks and Musks team explored options to strengthen the debt package, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential talks. The parties discussed options that could reduce the cost of the debt and make it less risky for banks to hold, one of the people said.
A group of seven banks, led by the New York-based lender, has been stuck holding the debt since 2022. Theyve repeatedly renewed an agreement not to individually offload their holdings, with the goal of coordinating a sale when X formerly known as Twitter is on firmer financial footing with stable advertising revenues, subscription growth and further traction from a planned peer-to-peer payments platform, one of the people said.
Representatives for X and Morgan Stanley declined to comment.

(129,054 posts)Elon Musk sparked outrage for calling antisemitic conspiracy theory the actual truth

The saga began when a social media user appeared to push the great replacement conspiracy theory on X, claiming that Jewish communities have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.
Im deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest s*** now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country dont exactly like them too much. You want truth said to your face, there it is, the post added. Mr Musk replied to the post, writing on his X platform: You have said the actual truth.
The initial post came in response to a campaign video posted on X by the Foundation to Combat Anti-Semitism. In the video, a father is seen calling his son out over the hateful rhetoric the son has spewed online. Mr Musks response received praise from white nationalist Nick Fuentes while prompting widespread backlash from dozens more online.
CNNs Jake Tapper was among the first to condemn the tech mogul, accusing him of pushing unvarnished antisemitism at a time of rising antisemitism and violence against Jews. The White House then also weighed in, accusing Musk of enabling the abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate.

But I get it, you think that is in the neighborhood of positive and related to an enemy of the party is worth attacking. FWIW, the original comment was anti-Trump, not pro-Musk.

(15,330 posts)is the fault of EVERY ONE that has ever said; "sure, he's a sick fucking Nazi, but have you seen his cars and rockets?"
It's pretty fucking simple.
Nothing will change. The racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy...NONE OF IT!...will change, unless and until we make racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy UNPROFITABLE to the businesses, corporations and individuals that fund and enable it.

I'm guessing Trump spoke to Musk, asking him to help out a fellow billionaire with cash flow problems and Musk responded with a no can do, I have my own cash flow problems.

it probably was worth a shot given musks recent poor judgement
