A leading Democrat has joked that the Republican National Committee is in "financial disarray" following sweeping changes introduced by its new leadership.
Jaime Harrison, the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), said in an interview with MeidasTouch: "The RNC is down bad... they are in financial disarray, they are dealing with a mass purge of staffers just a few months before the election."
He added: "They're on one of the worst losing streaks we've seen in modern party politics in the history of this nation. "Go Lara go... girl you are doing it, you are knocking it out the park, keep doing it."
Harrison's remarks came after reports that the RNC had laid off more than 60 employees to cut costs since unveiling its new leadership team last week. Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was elected co-chair of the RNC, while Michael Whatley, a long-time Trump supporter, was elected chair.

Further, once this 'news' hits the mainstream media for the many months before the election, even small money donors may balk at paying TFG's legal bills. Suckers, one and all!

(1,138 posts)In 2015 the Republican leadership talked about having a brokered convention to choose another candidate. Many of them realized that choosing an authoritarian Strong Leader who was not committed to democracy would imperil democracy in the US. But because Trump was so wildly popular with the 80% of their base who are authoritarians they knew that they could not win without him. So the Republican party put party before country and chose the Strong Leader. Of course there is no compromise with a Strong Leader. Authoritarianism is on the verge of consuming the Republican party, just as it will consume democracy in the US if we don't fight back immediately with sufficient force.

(1,135 posts)If they stay with him, they may be too broke to run, which could cost them votes. If they go against him, they lose the support of their carefully cultivated base, which would cost them votes.
Could vs would and would is what you worry about, because that's what has the highest probability of harm.
So it's not even a damned if you do or don't scenario, but one that's about a lesser of two evils. That means sticking with him is still their best bet.
