House GOP launches new probe of Jan. 6 and tries shifting blame for Capitol attack away from Trump

Source: AP

Updated 7:07 AM EDT, March 13, 2024

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans are launching a vast reinvestigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, seeking to push the blame away from Donald Trump, who has been indicted over his actions or his supporters in the mob siege trying to overturn the 2020 election.

As Trump campaigns to return to the White House, the House Administration subcommittee on oversight held the first of what is expected to be regular public hearings revisiting the official account, which had aired in great detail in 2022 by the House’s Select Committee on Jan. 6.

Chairman Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., called Jan. 6 a “dark day” in U.S. history as he opened Tuesday’s hearing to delve into the investigation of pipe bombs that were left outside Republican and Democratic party headquarters that day. But, he said, “we still have many unanswered questions.” The panel’s work comes as Trump and President Joe Biden are galloping toward a 2020 rematch this fall, and Republicans, some once skeptical of Trump’s return to the White House, have quickly been falling in line to support the former president.

The House GOP’s high-profile impeachment inquiry into Biden has stalled without a clear path forward. Speaker Mike Johnson said House Republicans intend to release a final report on Jan. 6 “to correct the incomplete narrative” advanced by the previous work of the Select Committee on the Jan. 6 attack.

Do they even consider bills other than short term funding of the government? All I see is boneheaded investigation after boneheaded investigation.

It is red meat for their base and a few wobblies but nobody else.

Net, I think it will lose them votes, especially if the DC criminal case against tRump goes to trial before the election.

The same Barry Loudermilk who gave guided tours of the U.S. Capitol to some of
the rioters/coup birds just prior to 1/6/21?

Rewriting history to cover their own crimes. And these people call themselves patriots
and Christians?

…. actions in trying to overthrow our Constitutional Democracy. Chuck Grassley spoke on 1/4 or
1/5/21 that he didn’t expect V.P. Pence to be presiding over the 1/6 counting of the certified
electoral votes, Boebert was wearing a 1776 t-shirt, and Gym Jordan was speaking to Trump
about the progress the violent mob as it was happening. And now the man who gave guided
tours of the Capitol Building to the insurrectionists just before the 1/6/21 attacks Laudermilk
is talking about what “a dark day it was?”

in spite of overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing, many of the media pundits continue to ignore even video proof or downplay the events with convoluted bothsiderism.

I want the perps charged. They made a long-term concerted effort to overthrow the government and install a dictator. As much as I have disagreed with policy over the years, I would not join an effort to overthrow the U.S. Government.

…. prior to 1/6/21 and when asked about it he said, “They were just interested in the wall sconces.”
And those wall sconces just happened to be on a stairway that led from the basement and one of
the doors that were to be breached up to the Capitol rotunda.

I'm sure that they will come up with some BS report that totally exonerates the Orange Ass about two week before the General Election, and blame Pres. Biden for the whole mess. Similar action they used to kill Clinton's election chances in 2016. "Nothing to see here! Move along and vote for Dump." And, their final "report" will ""correct the incomplete narrative” advanced by the previous work of the Select Committee on the Jan. 6 attack." They are so transparent, but they think they are so clever.

After three years selling it as a patriotic Boy Scout guided tour led by the real president, they admit it was a crime and they don't want any of that stink on Trump.
