Pelosi says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "should resign"

House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi said she believes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "should resign," criticizing the Israeli leader's aggressive response in Gaza to Hamas' Oct. 7 attack, and saying Netanyahu has been an obstacle to peace "for years."
Pelosi made the remarks in an interview with Irish public broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann during a visit to Ireland. Democrats, including President Biden, have grown increasingly critical of Netanyahu's leadership as Israel continues its assault on Gaza.
"We recognize Israel's right to protect itself," Pelosi told the Irish outlet. "We reject the policy and the practice of Netanyahu. Terrible. What could be worse than what he has done in response? First of all, the exposures. His intelligence person resigned he should resign. He's ultimately responsible."
Asked if Netanyahu is a "block" to peace, Pelosi said "he has been for years."

(7,386 posts)IMO, we really REALLY need a change in Israeli leadership. Netanyahu has no incentive to end the current conflict because it's the only thing keeping him in power.

(6,207 posts)Now war crimes can be added to the list. If the war ends, he'll find himself on trial.
I doubt he'll resign, but it's what he should do for the sake of Israel, and for peace in the middle east.

As for money sent over, as long as this country considers the Middle East an important piece in the foreign affairs puzzle, Israel is the eyes and the ears there.

(538 posts)What Hamas did on October 7, 2023 was heinous, evil, and unforgivable. Unfortunately, the response by Netanyahu and the IDF is not justified. They have killed thousands and thousands of innocent people, women and children. One heinous act does not justify another heinous act. Two wrongs do not make a right. There have been terrible actions on both sides. Israel has the right to defend itself, but not to kill innocent civilians en masse. The Israelis that support this killing have lost the moral high ground. They are not justified. The IDF needed to find a way to target the Hamas perpetrators without the mass killing of thousands of innocent civilians. There are many Israelis and Jews that do not support this slaughter. Mass murder is never justified, on either side. So I condemn the October 7th killings, but also the mass killings of innocent Gazan civilians. Cease fire now, and the return of all hostages.

He was never for a 2-state solution. Plus, he wants to keep his ass out of jail.
