Donald Trump Campaign Accused of Spamming People With Unsolicited Emails

Source: Newsweek

Published Apr 26, 2024 at 4:00 AM EDT

Former President Donald Trump's campaign has been accused of spamming people with unsolicited campaign emails through third parties ahead of the 2024 election, including individuals from foreign countries who cannot vote.

Some people told Newsweek about receiving "annoying" emails advancing the presumptive Republican nominee's campaign, with one claiming they had been unable to unsubscribe from them.

There was no suggestion that the email activity is a breach of electoral rules. Email lists are often sold or rented to federal candidate campaigns and PACs for solicitation purposes.

However, one company sending the emails may be breaching its terms of service by allegedly not allowing a user to unsubscribe. The email activity sheds light on how Trump's team is aiming to reach potential voters.

Donald Trump Is Illegally Soliciting Money from Foreign Nationals to Fund His Presidential Campaign

JUNE 29, 2016

WASHINGTON - Donald J. Trump's presidential campaign committee is violating black-letter federal law by sending campaign fundraising emails to foreign nationals - including foreign politicians - in at least Iceland, Scotland, Australia and England. The Campaign Legal Center and Democracy 21 today will file a complaint with the Federal Election Commission highlighting this violation and demanding the agency send a clear message that foreign money is not allowed in U.S. elections.

"Donald Trump should have known better," said Paul S. Ryan, CLC deputy executive director. "It is a no-brainer that it violates the law to send fundraising emails to members of a foreign government on their official foreign government email accounts, and yet, that's exactly what Trump has done repeatedly. The FEC's forum last week highlighted how foreign corporate money could infiltrate U.S. elections, but Trump's fundraising antics show that the FEC must also monitor candidates directly soliciting foreign money.

"If the FEC fails to take action on our complaint, it could send a message that Trump and other candidates have the greenlight to fundraise overseas,” Ryan added.

"This is a strange and unique development that we have not seen before in campaign fundraising," said Democracy 21 President Fred Wertheimer. "The FEC needs to investigate how many of these illegal solicitations were sent, to whom they were sent, whether any illegal foreign contributions have been received and, if so, whether the contributions have been returned."

I have one of those background check programs and they use the same database. I laugh at some of "my phone numbers". My kids numbers are even funnier.

How does this happen: Someone attends an event and they scribble their phone number. Someone scribbles a phone number when they apply for one of those reward programs. You have kids, spouse etc. and share a carrier account. Someone previously had your phone number assigned to them. You have a name that is similar....lots of ways....

Same with emails....

as well. Around February I started getting bombarded by Trump texts. They did finally stop, but it was strange. I have no link whatsoever to anything remotely Republican or Trumpish.

I already get enough spam from DCCC, at least 5 or 6 per day.
Can't wait to see how they ramp up for the election.
