Iran's President Missing After Helicopter Crash in Dense Fog
Source: Bloomberg News via Yahoo
(Bloomberg) -- Rescue teams are searching into the night to try to locate Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi after his helicopter crashed on his way back from a visit to the countrys northwest.
There was dense fog in the region, making conditions difficult for search teams, state media said, without giving a direct cause for the incident on Sunday. Irans government spokesman, Ali Bahadori Jahromi, said late in the evening on X that there were no new updates and that the country was grappling with a difficult and complicated situation.
Irans Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urged people to pray for Raisis health and said there wont be any disruption to the countrys affairs as a result of the incident, according to a statement shown on state TV.
Raisis air fleet consisted of three helicopters with high-ranking officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported. Amirabdollahian was believed to be on board Raisis aircraft at the time.

(111,800 posts)after the Turks lent them a drone with a thermal camera. Photos show little still recognizable as helicopter parts, burn scar on the mountainside. "No survivors" has been announced there.
So the Butcher of Tehran has been splattered across a mountainside. Xitter is reporting sporadic fireworks, cheering from windows, but that and about eight bucks will get you an over priced designer coffee.
The President of Iran is largely window dressing as far as high office goes, the real power rests with the doddering Ayatollahs. I don't expect much of a shakeup over his loss.
So tots and pears to the grieving widows, if any. I would find it very difficult to mourn for that guy.
