U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson won't pledge to accept result of 2024 presidential election
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Molly Beck May 19, 2024MADISON U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson is not pledging to accept the result of the November presidential election, leaving a door open to objecting to the certification of election results a scenario that prompted an attack on the U.S. Capitol four years ago when former President Donald Trump lost reelection.
Johnson told The Cap Times on Saturday he could not answer whether he would accept the results of the 2024 presidential election, calling it an "impossible hypothetical."
We have to see exactly what happens," Johnson said in an interview at the state Republican Party convention in Appleton. "If there are all kinds of abuses, we might have to start questioning those abuses, might have to investigate them. I certainly want to (accept the results).
A spokeswoman for Johnson did not immediately answer questions early Sunday about what kind of events could push Johnson to seek an investigation.
Johnson also hedged on accepting the results of the 2020 election four years ago amid heavy pressure leveled by Trump on Republicans to avenge his election loss despite a lack of evidence to support doing so.....................

Johnson is nothing but a vile little so-called human.

(4,051 posts)The GOP rejects American values like the peaceful transfer of power,
The peaceful transfer of power has been a shining feature in American Democracy for our entire history (Civil War exception).
The GOP is tearing down the city bricks and throwing them off the hill.

If you cant accept the results of free elections - meaning ones that dont go your way - then go live where your outcome is guaranteed, and you already love the leader. Fuckstick.

Every "christian" Republican is a fake.

Just because they're awful people doesn't mean they aren't Christians. Just because you automatically think that Christians can't be bad people, and thus the only bad people are those who aren't Christian (the bloody logical extension of foisting off your bad actors on people who aren't Christians) doesn't mean your outrageous assertion is true.
Why do so many Christians compulsively lie that immoral or awful people are 'fake' Christians, when they most certainly are? Who died and made you the ultimate judge of who is or isn't a Christian, anyway? From what I understand of the cult, that's not for any one person to decide, but entirely the call of the cult's deities.
Instead of lying that an immoral Christian is a 'fake' one, when they undoubtedly are 100% Christian, try something that's actually you know, MORAL. Like owning how they're awful Christians, rather than blaming others for their terrible behaviour.
Take responsibility for the failures in your own religion to improve the person. It's not our job to clean up your religion's immoral people. It's yours.

(338 posts)Looking back at 2000 and 2016, we were not ready to quietly accept results we believed were problematic. We worked in the courts and the streets to rectify what we felt were injustices.
Could you possibly pledge not to do the same if the 2024 election seems to be lost due to voter suppression, illegal tampering, and outright fraud.
Few of us - Dem or GOP - fully trust the system anymore. It is a sad state of affairs and one that I hope can be overcome in time - preferably through reforms that build trust rather than this being the last election that we ever hold so there is nothing to trust in the future.
I agree with those that question the value of asking this of any politician. Can any of them answer in a way that will satisfy everyone?

(6,150 posts)Republicans thought the last election wasn't legit and brought up many reasons why it wasn't.
All have been examined and all have been found not applicable.
The voting system is complex but rigorous, and not amenable to manipulation.
There are 'spoilers' in the system though, like gerrymandering and the Electoral College - they need addressing.
But it's disingenuous of you to suggest the system can be manipulated easily in other ways.
People who lose faith in the value of their vote will not bother to vote. Is that what you want?

(2,332 posts)The witness specifically told lawmakers, for example, that there were people doing the bidding for the Russians people in Congress, like Sen. Ron Johnson. Referring to his disinformation efforts with Giuliani, Parnas added, Ron Johnson was our guy in the Senate.
{snip}
I can appreciate why the GOP senator is a bit sensitive about such accusations. It was, after all, just last month when the public learned that Alexander Smirnov the witness at the heart of the Republican Partys impeachment crusade against President Biden was arrested for lying to the FBI about the Bidens and allegedly received information from foreign intelligence officials, including lies from Russia.
Ron Johnson wasted little time in declaring that Smirnov is innocent until proven guilty, and suggested that the Justice Departments investigation might be corrupt.
A couple of weeks earlier, Johnson denounced U.S. aid to Ukraine, criticized U.S. sanctions against Russia, and expressed agreement with Vladimir Putins recent rhetoric.

Are those enough data points to convince you that Putin does Johnson's 'thinking' for him?

(4,117 posts)mine were that the Rep had just disqualified himself from any future election for public office. I like your thoughts better, tho... immediate karma coming down. The minute they open their mouth, they're kicked out. If they manage to keep it shut til the election, then, if they win their election they won't be seated. If they don't win, and continue on with the "I'm not going to accept"... kick them out of the running. The next higher vote getter is the winner.
I'm tired of this bullcrap. Each every one of these people has violated their oaths of office by trumpeting from the highest hills they'll not accept the voter's decision. Bully on them! It's time "we the people" take back our voting rights and make sure that elections have consequences for the minority. Quite frankly, when Democrats win, we are *still* ruled by the minority party. Enough! Clean out the corruption!
NanaCat
(2,332 posts)I mean, if the election was indeed tainted, then those who supposedly won didn't win, after all. So if they want to claim the vote was rigged, then they have to admit that the vote putting them in office was rigged, so, by their own logic, they need to step down until a 'real' election can happen.
Live by the sword. Die by the sword.
