Bankrupt Rudy Giuliani slashes price on Manhattan apartment as criminal charges and debt mount

Source: UK Independent

Rudy Giuliani has slashed the price of his Manhattan apartment days after he launched a coffee brand in yet another desperate bid to boost his finances as he faces bankruptcy and debt of $148m.

The former New York City mayor cut the price of his Upper East Side residence, which was originally listed by Sotheby’s International Real Estate for $6.5m last summer, by $400,000 to $5.7m. The one-time advisor to former President Donald Trump pulled the listing in February. He’d previously reduced the asking price of his Gothic-style unit after only three months on the market.

The pre-war apartment has hardwood floors, intracte paneling, high ceilings, leaded-glass windows, a semi-private elevator and wood-burning fireplace tucked inside a library. Ample windows providing natural light are located throughout. The Independent has emailed Sotheby’s and Mr Giuliani’s rep for comment.

It’s just the latest move by the former New York City mayor to raise cash amid mounting money woes, after debuting a coffee brand called “Rudy.Coffee” last week.

Those suckers will be expensive to find. They didn't build those from radio shack parts, and you can be sure they will be off when you scan for them.

Of course, Rudy could be living in some hideaway guest room with a coffee pot and microwave, plus a small bathroom, in order to keep the rest of the place looking pristine. He looks so awful these past several years that I can well imagine what kind of pigsty he’d create with piles of bottles.

I like the woodwork and other details. Someone did some nice upgrades and modernization over time. It’s 100% more attractive than Don & Melania’s “dictator chic” that they carry over to all their residences.

I like the clubby and warm look it gives. I wouldn't buy his place though, even if I could afford it.

You pay me $4M and I'll take it off your hands. Payment must be secured by a bond because you owe too much to too many others.

Love the windows. Looks like it’s been staged to get rid of all traces of Rudy. Small kitchen, but I guess that was typical for pre-war homes. Not great views, but that comes at a (greater) cost.

Loathsome as Rudy is, it’s still kind of sad to see someone fall so fast and so hard.

he deserves what has happened to him, and then some. I remember when he and Whitman "agreed" there was no danger in the air after 9/11. Even I knew that was a ridiculous statement to make! All that asbestos and other building material still wafting through the air in Manhattan! Sure enough, it didn't take too many years to pass before the first of the cancers began showing in the rescuers.

I do like the apartment, tho... I like the way it's done, even tho they've no doubt stripped it of anything detailing Rudy's "style:... for example, there's no art on the walls, etc. But I like the clean lines and especially the panelling (didn't expect to like that, but damned, with that ceiling, it really looked good to me! And the windows are fantastic!

NYC commercial real estate is in free fall. After Covid, people started working remotely. Office leases are not being renewed, or rates are cut substantially. Banks are floating a LOT of CRE debt from before Covid with buildings now 60% full.

With fewer workers needed in NYC, condo/apartment rates should come down as well.

That is a beautiful building. I noticed a #5 sports jersey on a wall, who was that, Babe Ruth? I laughed when I saw a flag, a photo of the flag, and a painting of Jefferson (I think).

Who does he think he is? Traitor!!!!!!!!

Overpriced though, but then again it is Manhattan.
Most real estate is, in that place.
