Peter Navarro loses en banc appeal to get out of prison for contempt of Congress sentence

Source: Law & Crime

May 23rd, 2024, 2:13 pm

Yet another request by former Donald Trump White House trade adviser Peter Navarro to be released from prison was rejected, this time by the full federal Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

The one-page ruling denied Navarro’s request for a full rehearing, with the decision noting that there was “an absence of a request” by any member of the court to consider Navarro’s appeal.

As Law&Crime previously reported, a judge earlier this month tossed Navarro’s bid to get out of prison early by requesting to add 30 days of supervised release to his original four-month sentence.

Navarro was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the now-defunct House Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol. He was sentenced this January and fined $9,500. He appealed in February and then in March, the appeals court flatly rejected his attempts to stay out of detention on appeal, telling him to go straight to prison instead.

Take the punishment like an adult, and it will be over far sooner than he deserves. He's wasting everyone's time with this endless temper tantrum.

I did not know he had also gone to the SC.

........He raised the request to the Supreme Court in an emergency motion but was also rejected by Chief Justice John Roberts, who handles emergency requests like these for cases in the District of Columbia.

Navarro will complete his four-month sentence in July.
