UCLA orders pro-Palestinian protesters to disperse immediately
Source: KCAL 9
As pro-Palestinian protesters began to assemble once again on the UCLA campus Thursday, school administration called for the demonstrators to "disperse immediately."
Thursday morning, a small group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators began using tables, metal fences, plywood and other objects to create a barricade, blocking off a section between Kerckhoff and Moore halls.
The assembling of protesters was simultaneously happening while UCLA's Chancellor Gene Block testified before Congress about efforts to combat antisemitism on campus.
By the afternoon, the protester group grew, and with SKYCal overhead, police and security teams could be seen scuffling with protesters.

(1,081 posts)I don't remember hearing anything about that. Therefore, the pro-Israel supporters who assaulted the pro-Palestinian group are at fault. I am strictly talking about the clash between the pro-Israel and the pro-Palestinian protests at UCLA, not whether or not the fault lies with Hamas.

(923 posts)This is an escalation of tactics creating miniature antisemitic encampments, replete with booby-traps, weapons, and defensive maneuvers to retain things like... oh... other people's property and... (checks notes)... hostages, as at CU.
I will agree that UCLA was pretty fucked up. Both the counter-protesters and cops.
The whole lot of them can go fuck themselves. This is like the street-fighting in Portland between the Proud Boys and Antifa. Except this time the sociopaths siding with (Islamo)fascists are so-called "leftists".
I denounce them. I won't associate myself with them. Or those counter-protesters. As for the cops? FTP.

(1,081 posts)You got two opposing groups that are like electricity and water. That was never going to be a good combination. Look, student protests are not anything new, it happens in a lot of places. When I visited the UK in 2010, not far from the hotel we were staying at, there were student protests occurring. Yes, it was for different reasons, but it's not something new. That being said, it seems very suspicious why they didn't stop the pro-Israel group from assaulting the pro-Palestinian group. Also, are we sure that the pro-Israel group didn't include Christian Nationalists? Again, it just seems really fishy that they weren't prepared for this sort of thing.

(923 posts)I can't imagine it's been easy for Maga to make inroads into Israeli popular sentiment. It's obvious that Maga is Christian Nationalist, and that's a big fat NOPE for most Israelis... between Nuttyahoo's abysmal polling and the marches in Tel Aviv we know that much.
The vitriol and antisemitic hate is so strong that many American Jews are keeping their heads down. There's no upside to getting involved in this circus. It's not the first time the US has been convulsed by antisemitic hatred.
That is what this is, though. It's antisemitic hatred, being fed by global and domestic right-wing elements. Make no mistake.

(1,081 posts)There was an clash last September at USC when USC's Annenberg School of Communication hosted Hasan Murat Mercan, ambassador of Turkey to the US and Ramil Gaburnov, Azerbaijan's Special Consul. That angered the Armenians there, who protested and they were forcibly removed as well. This occured at the same time that Azerbaijan put Nagorno-Karabakh, which at the time was ethnically Armenian, in a siege and eventually took it back. They see those people as complicit in the Armenian Genocide. But in a world where instant news is readily available, once it starts, it's hard to stop the firestorm.

(8,913 posts)I love these kids - they are seeing so many injustices and dead & injured kids on their phones everyday and they are not complacent.
Glad they are beginning to arrest kids who attacked Palestine protesters last week.
The police charged Edan On, an 18-year-old high school senior, with felony assault for attacking at least one person with a wooden pole. He was remanded to a Los Angeles jail, where he's being held on a $30,000 bond, according toThe Guardian. On was first identified for his role in the mob attack, led by so-called counterprotestors, in a CNNinvestigation published May 16.

(923 posts)I'll say it again. Fuck 'em all.
Half of those encampment bums probably aren't even students. Or more. I'd bet money half of them aren't even "youth"... they're dedicated, even professional, activists. At UCLA? Better believe it.
I'm not buying the 1960s nostalgia. Old people pine. I'm not that old yet.
And half the counter-protesters aren't even pro-Israel. They're either Boogaloo or other varieties of provocateurs. Like MAGA/Nazi fucks just stirring the pot to see if they can fuck some shit up.
Then, there's the cops. Don't get me started. They stand around for hours and let it happen and then arrest a high school kid.
Fuck. Them. All.
