Families of Marines who died in an Osprey crash sue Bell Textron, Boeing and Rolls-Royce, makers of the aircraft

The families of four Marines who died in a V-22 Osprey crash in California on June 8, 2022, have filed a lawsuit accusing the manufacturers of the twin-rotor military aircraft of negligence.

In a federal lawsuit filed Thursday in California, the plaintiffs allege that the makers of the aircraft, Bell Textron and Boeing, and the maker of its engine, Rolls-Royce, failed to make “truthful statements to the government and to service members about the design, operation, and safety of V-22 Osprey aircraft.”

The complaint alleges that in the California crash of the unique aircraft, which can rise vertically like a helicopter and fly horizontally like a plane, there were two systems that failed and the failures may result in a recurrent mechanical problem that can cause it to crash. Boeing and Rolls Royce did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A Bell Textron spokesperson said the company "cannot comment on matters of litigation.” A spokesperson for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division that oversees the V-22 Joint Program Office said, “It is NAVAIR’s policy not to comment on pending litigation.”

No fuckin' way will I want my nephews to enlist. Even if they aren't in a war, these contractors will put their lives at risk with their shoddy-made products.

The thing has been a death trap, from the day it came on line. It has always had issues, in the transition from chopper, to airplane/fixed wing. Just remember, it's all about making money for the CEOs.

The Military Industrial Complex has known since it's introduction that it is purely a death trap. Worse of all is that it fulfills no real purpose what-so-ever in our military. My brother was a military pilot for decades and he says it is definitely a "Death Trap". How much time, energy, updates, money, and most importantly LIVES are we going to spend on continuing with this farcical money pit????
If I was a military pilot and assigned to pilot that plane, I would quit...........

Last summer, I was sitting at my desk and heard an extremely loud something outside and wondered WTF.....I rushed out side, and there was one of these "things" slowly moving overhead down I-25 in the helicopter mode. I hadn't ever seen one, so I quickly took a picture and emailed it to my brother for identification. He gave me the low own on it. He could not figure out what the hell one was even doing in the Denver or Colorado area, especially on a hot summer day. He said the thing operates far, far worse than normal in our (Denver or Colorado) geography in the summer due to the problems with the "AirDensity/Altitude" . Especially in Helicopter mode.......

Who is it that just can't admit it is a DOG and just scrap them all??????? I would hate to know just how much money has been tossed down this money pit.(and other military weaponry with similar histories)

They're going full steam ahead with this flawed design. More $$$ billions for defense on junk.

The Bell V-280 Valor is the U.S. Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA), a huge win for the manufacturer that will underpin its production line for decades to come.

Bell was initially awarded the FLRAA contract in December 2022, selected over the Sikorsky-Boeing Defiant X compound coaxial helicopter. The Sikorsky-Boeing team subsequently protested to overturn the decision, but this was denied by the Government Accountability Office in April, giving Bell the green light to push on with the program.
