US Sen. Susan Collins says she will once again not vote for Donald Trump in 2024

PORTLAND, Maine -- Sen. Susan Collins didn't vote for Donald Trump for president in 2016 or 2020, and the third time will not be the charm — because she is writing in Nikki Haley.
Collins, a longtime moderate Republican senator from Maine, told reporters on Friday that she intended to write in the former South Carolina governor's name on the ballot in November. The move recalls 2016, when Collins said she wrote in then-House Speaker Paul Ryan for president over Trump.
Collins is the only New England Republican in Congress and the only Republican holding statewide office in Maine, where Trump has twice won an electoral vote. She said Friday that she is sticking with her endorsement of Haley despite the fact Haley will not be on the ballot.
“I publicly endorsed Nikki Haley, and I wanted her to win. She’s still my favorite candidate, and I think she could do a great job. She’s my choice, and that’s how I’m going to express it," Collins told WMTW-TV.

But this won't get the hysterical media jackals "excited" because an actual "vote" is not important.

(45,730 posts)What’s the point of this “symbolic” vote? Besides Haley has embraced and endorsed Trump.

(149,965 posts)I expect there are many others who will be doing the same (or not voting the top of the ticket) - at least those who refuse to vote for any Democrat. And at this point, that is fine. That's less votes for 45.

(11,194 posts)Did Collins not hear that after trying desperately to expose Trump's self-serving, vindictiveness, and disqualifications, that spineless, ethics don't really matter, Haley turned around and vowed to vote FOR Trump.

(3,262 posts)Screw Susan Collings...she's kissed the ring like they all have. She had her chance but her level of "concern" never went high enough to vote to impeach that bastard. "Learned his lesson" my ass.
Really don't care about your symbolic gesture. A vote for anybody but Joe Biden this November is a vote for Trump. Pound sand, Susan.

(7,600 posts)Nikki Haley isn't running for the Presidency, so Collin's support for her is irrelevant.
I seriously doubt she will write in her name in the fall election.

(13,583 posts)It says clearly that you no longer desire a democracy.
If the nation survives despite your vote, your legacy will be in the toilet. If it doesn’t, we will no longer have history books, so legacy won’t matter.
I’m still amazed at what has happened to Congress. I guess I always assumed that they all had at least some knowledge of how our nation was formed and how much it requires true patriots to lead. I guess I didn’t factor in power and money on the other end of the scales.
I think the forefathers did. That’s probably why they all were somewhat skeptical about the outcome.
