Musk accuses Google of election interference over Trump autocomplete results

Elon Musk has repeatedly accused Google of being biased against former President Donald Trump in a series of X posts.

Musk, who has endorsed Trump, and other influential conservative critics primarily focused on Google’s autocomplete feature, which provides suggestions based on what you’ve typed into the search bar.

In screenshots reposted by Musk, Google suggestions for “assassination attempt of” and “president donald” don’t show Trump in the autocomplete predictions.

When some users typed “assassination attempt of” into the search bar, the top autocomplete suggestions appeared to be for former President Ronald Reagan and Bob Marley. On July 13, Trump was shot in the ear during a failed assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. Numerous conservative commentators speculated that Trump being left out of the suggestions was an intentional effort to influence the November election.

their algorithm is based to some extent on past searches. Musk is intentionally making news to justify his own intentional electioneering.

18. You know what shows up top for me for autocomplete for "president"? "President Donald Trump".

And, of course, for "president donald" too. Fuck, Google's algorithm has put him above the current US president (and of course all the other presidents of countries or other entities), and Musk is still whining about "bias".

What comes up top for "assassination"? "assassination attempt", plain "assassination", then "assassination trump". Now, if you continue to "assassination attempt of", Trump does drop down the list. Why? Because it's not a biased algorithm. It's based on who knows what. But since all the ones above Trump happened some time ago, it's not totally surprising that they could end up higher, since a lot of history has been written about them.

Musk is a nasty racist and misogynist, and a lying idiot. There, that just adds to the chances of his autocomplete showing the truth about him.
