Ex-French President Chirac guilty of embezzling

A French court has found former President Jacques Chirac guilty of embezzling public funds and other charges in a trial over illegal financing of the conservative party he long led.

He's the first former French head of state to face prosecution since the World War II era.

But Chirac, who is 79 years old, did not take part in the trial after doctors determined that he suffers severe memory lapses.

Chirac was given a two year suspended sentence.

Oh Jacques Chirac, if only you'd been an American Republican politician, you would've gotten away with that!

1. True, and if only he had supported the War in Iraq, there would never have been this story.

The warmongers never forget a perceived slight. Not that they arranged for this. But if only he had supported their bloody wars, they might have prevented this from happening. They don't forget their friends, like Tony Blair who could certainly have been put on trial for lying to the British people to get them into war, a crime that seems to me to have far more serious consequences for the citizens he was supposed to represent than embezzlement . But he, like our own war criminals, is protected.

6. Again, if he had not supported the warmongers, he would have been in jail

long ago. He is hard to keep protecting as he just can't seem to stop himself from getting into trouble. Even his benefactors' considerable skills at covering for those who supported them, or is it'sucked up to' them, are probably severely taxed by his shenanigans. But he's not in jail at least.

"The court said it took into account his age, health and status as a former head of state when determining the sentence."

Man, that is pretty blatant, but at least honest.
