Black Republicans feel left out of Trump's 2nd-term picks

As President-elect Donald Trump fills out his Cabinet and chooses his closet advisers ahead of Inauguration Day, many African American leaders are asking why more Black people haven't been appointed to key positions. ABC News spoke to more than a half dozen longtime and new African American conservatives and Republicans within Trumpworld, in and outside of Washington.
Last month, the president-elect appointed Scott Turner, who was executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump's first term, to serve as secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
One area of frustration for many Black Republicans was speculation that if Trump did nominate an African American to his administration, it would be at HUD, the department that has had the most Black secretary appointments of any. One Black Southern Republican told ABC News, "Why is every Black person given HUD?" adding that it was "the literal Black job of the administration."
ABC News reached out to Trumps transition team for comment on his selections but did not get a reply. Six African Americans have served as HUD secretaries, including Robert Weaver, the first. His appointment in 1966 by President Lyndon B. Johnson also made him the first African American appointed to a Cabinet-level position.

(376 posts)Right now Republicans are trying to pass an anti-DEI law which would block minorities from working in Government, rewrite part of the Civil Rights Act and black list companies who used DEI on Government contracts. They've been called out for this but they don't care so long as they succeed. Just one of the reasons people hate friends and acquaintances who voted for Trump. Republicans want to rewrite history and make American white again.

(4,308 posts)Trump Wants Central Park 5 Defamation Lawsuit Thrown Out, Argues They Pled Guilty Was Only a Minor Inaccuracy

President-elect Donald Trump has asked a judge to dismiss the defamation lawsuit against him filed by the Central Park Five, claiming it is legally insufficient and meritless.
Plaintiffs attempt to use the courts to silence political discourse is barred by Pennsylvanias robust protections for free speech, Trumps legal team wrote in a Tuesday letter to Judge Wendy Beetlestone. Pennsylvanias anti-SLAPP statute provides immunity for protected public expression on matters of public concern, including statements made during a political debate, shielding defendants from meritless lawsuits designed to chill free speech.
The update came a month after the Exonerated Five Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron Brown (formerly known as Antron McCray) and Korey Wise sued Trump for falsely stating in his September debate against Vice President Kamala Harris that the men initially pled guilty to the 1989 assault and rape, as opposed to merely admitting guilt during police questioning.
The former Celebrity Apprentice host infamously took out full-page ads in four New York City newspapers in May of 1989, calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty in the wake of the Central Park attack and has since refused to apologize including after the 2024 debate in question. The city of New York settled a civil rights lawsuit with the five men for $41 million in 2014.

(58,022 posts)Their naivete is disturbing, as is their obvious desire to be seen as 'not like those other Black people.
Tim Scott shucked and jived and grinned so much before trump on TV at the rethug convention it was sickening. And he hasn't gotten so much as mention by anyone close to trump or winger media TV talkers.
It's true to form. In his first go-roung I just remember Ben Carson at HUD who always seem asleep, and Omarosa, the one who was dismissed on bad terms then wrote a tell-all book, never to be heard from again after a few appearances on the talk shows about her book.
Let's see if trump appoints any Black people. No Latinos yet either, or Asian Americans. Guess Kash Patel, the bootlicker, is the only POC, whatever nationality he is.

(4,555 posts)I'm reminded of "The Scorpion and the Frog." In this fable, a scorpion asks a frog to carry him across a river. The frog is initially hesitant, fearing that the scorpion will sting him. The scorpion reassures the frog that he wouldn't do that because if he stung the frog, they would both drown.
Midway across the river, however, the scorpion does indeed sting the frog. As they both begin to sink, the frog asks the scorpion why he did it, to which the scorpion replies, "I couldn't help it. It's in my nature."
