Sam Donaldson arrested on suspicion of DUI

Source: San Jose Mercury News

Sam Donaldson, the veteran ABC newsman and political correspondent, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence earlier this month in Delaware.

Donaldson reportedly failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. He was taken to a nearby police station where he was booked and eventually released. He was reportedly very cooperative.

You'd think at his age he'd know better, but he does come from that generation where DUI was no big thing.

I don't understand when rich people are caught drunk driving. Having someone drive me any time I wanted to drink would be about the first thing I'd set up if I were wealthy.

Get a chauffer or call a service. I don't drink and I am not rich but that's what I would do if I did and I were.

That is, when I'm somewhere where I can't take public transportation or walk.

When I was in the service I didn't drink so on weekends I'd always have plenty of offers to go out with friends as they'd want me to go if for no other reason than the fact I didn't drink and I could drive us back to the base. Friends took advantage of it and likewise I took advantage of that. I didn't start drinking until I was in my mid thirties.
Quit in my late 50s

You were to meet me for a drink, but you never showed up.

Now I find that you are still drinking! You told me you had stopped.

I will help you, but you first need to answer some questions.

Or not.

In my small town, we often don't get arrest news until there's a court appearance. Maybe that's the case here.

nor from over-appraising the importance of the story. It was a comment about a reporter/journalist, especially this one, who are/were high profile and who are more often than not demanding that any little bit of information that catches their fancy, not necessarity what is important just what catches their fancy, be revealed to them *immediately* for them to decide whether it is useful to their careers (as opposed to the public interest) or not. Although Sam dates back to the days when he was one of the boys and the boys might sit on an item if the protaganist was kewl and one of them boys. But today Faux Propaganda Network and Matt SLUDGE would trip over themselves to leak anything like this DUI against whatever Dem.

As for "this changes everything," well, while I'm not surprised that Sam knocks a few down, I had never heard anything that impeached his credibility in his reporting and punditry, but from now on when he's punditeering I'll have it in the back of my mind, like, "Do I trust his judgment NOW?!1" since I am fully in the camp asking why especially people like him who can afford it don't pay somebody to drive them to their fun, so in that sense this DOES change SOMEthing about Senor DONALDSON for me. However, as for being minded by minders, when I logged the same question when Diana ROSS was DUI, a drinking woman replied, "Sometimes we're TIRED of being watched over and just want to do what we want to do!1"

That said, I don't take the grumpiness personally. And in the VFW we call one another "comrade," so I'm relating to the whole enchilada of your DU handle, haha!1
