McConnell reaches out to Biden, Reid steps back

Source: Washington Post

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has appealed directly to Vice President Biden to try to break an impasse in negotiations to avoid the “fiscal cliff,” as Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) steps back from talks.

On the Senate floor just after 2 p.m., McConnell said he had delivered Senate Democrats an offer at 7 p.m. Saturday, and had yet to hear back from them with a potential counter-offer. In hopes of reaching a last-minute deal, McConnell said he had reached out to Biden. “I was here all day yesterday,” McConnell noted as he spoke.

He added, “There’s no single issue that remains an impossible sticking point. The sticking point appears to be the willingness and interest or frankly the courage to close the deal. I want everyone to know, I’m willing to get this done, but I need a dance partner.”

Reid responded moments later by saying that he was not in a position to provide a counter-offer. . .

No Chained CPI allowed in ANY deal. Senate Democrats are making sure of that.

Obama put it on the table. How is it amazing after he told them he'd bargain with it?

HE PUT IT ON THE TABLE. Obama told the republicans to come and get it.

He begged 'em to starve us seniors.

We're not dead yet.

Then Medicaid. They will all be destroyed in the next three months, unless good folks like Bernie Sanders prevail.

Unlikely. So much for retirement. And the notion that elections matter.

I doubt though that many if any dems will support cuts to SS that hurt the poor and or those who rely entirely upon SS as their source of income though I wouldnt cry if say Cheney took a cut to his.

They are holding up the tax deal because they need their pound of flesh off the seniors? If the wealthy have to feel pain, so do the old folks? Not enough blood and suffering for you? Tax Bob Cratchet, make him retire later, make Tiny Tim pay for his own medical expenses, just please for the Love of Jesus himself, don't tax dear old Scrooge.

We're going over that cliff and their precious tax cuts are going bye-bye.

Now when the President proposes a tax cut for the middle class, the Republicans cannot be seen voting against it.
