Trump's 'political team is nervous' voters aren't buying what he's selling: insider

Source: Raw Story

September 13, 2025 9:00AM ET

There is growing alarm within Donald Trump’s inner circle that his message on a booming economy is falling flat with voters who still see prices rising when they were promised the opposite would occur after he was re-elected.

According to a report from Politico’s Megan Messerly, one of the president’s longtime economic advisers conceded that growing angst that the president’s agenda could be waylaid by growing voter discontent because they feel things are not getting better as promised.

Noting that behind the scenes “White House officials acknowledge people just aren’t feeling it,” when Trump boasts he is behind the “best economy we’ve ever had,” Messerly pointed out, “But polls show Americans remain anxious about high prices, and there are signs the economy’s resilience is starting to fray, making it harder for the administration to close the delta between how the economy looks on paper and how people feel.”

That led Stephen Moore, who has often been at Trump’s side when it comes to explaining economic matters, to concede, “This is a thing that I know the White House political team is nervous about because there’s a reality and there’s a perception. And the reality is the economy is doing fine and the perception is people are still worried about things like grocery prices, which are still high, and still growing,” Former Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes agreed and said fixing the perception problem is easier said than done.

Trump but millions of votes were deleted

a million votes and various B.O.E.s dumped @ least a
million mail in votes too.

When the wheels fall off and the rust comes through the shiny paintwork, you start to think your 'smart' buy wasn't that smart after all.

But what did people expect?
Put a person with no interest or experience in politics or running a viable business in charge of the country, you get exactly what we have now.
Utter chaos, utter dismay, utter fear for the future.

I'm not surprised, neither is the rest of the world.

The perception can't be fixed. Because the idea that 'the economy is doing fine' is just a lie.
Sometimes facts expose the lies.
Daily observations say the economy isn't fine.
Pesky concept, personal experience and facts exposing lies, so inconvenient!

When was the last time they went to a grocery store and bought food?

Oh …. Never, you say?

Well … reality slaps every person when they try to put food on their family (GWB reference)

The stock market is not a reflection of the economy … it loves bad news, because it only responds to interest rate cuts and tax cuts …

The only inflation it cares about is wage inflation, which is when people get paid more … because that eats into corporate profits … and we just can’t have that …

Billionaires are not worried about people dying and starving and trying to live on minimum wage, which has not been raised since 2009 and is $7.25 an hour in many states

It always lags behind what the man in the street sees, and is looking at other factors.

But it will tank, guaranteed.

As for Trump - some reporter needs to ask if he knows what the price of gas, eggs are currently, and what the minimum wage is.
And why things are so.

Prediction: No reporter will ask. Against the current 'rules' of how reporting is done.

It's not that the Democrats are doing anything wrong. It's that the GOP is doing something "right", but I don't know WTF it is? IMO the GOP is doing everything wrong. (Or just about). They must be brainwashed. Prices at the grocery store are bad.

Dems yelling and screaming (that's all we can do) won't do any good. Lawsuits work, but they haven't been too effective because of SCROTUS.

I remember some numbnut in the obama admin (I think it was) talking about chained cpi... something about when we can't afford beef we'll just buy chicken, or whatever is cheaper. Thus, the inflation doesn't count. Or something that stupid, anyway. It was focused on elderly "spending habits" and how they could get around not being in the majority of shoppers and how they spend their money.

I remember when I could buy a can of refried beans, a little hamburger, and some fixings and make a decent burrito meal for under $5. Those are days LONG past. The refried beans, alone, now nearly coast $5, and forget adding meat to the mix!

We're freak'n can't afford to eat. We don't need Democrats to scream and holler. We just need people to stop being led by the GOP. They love the GOP even though the price of food is outrageous. They love dictatorships. I'm in the wrong country.

Raw Story's headlines never match their article. They link to other another article which doesn't match the headline. Apparently, Americans don't GAF about out of control inflation and out of control everything else. They don't give a damn about out of control masked men. Doxxing. Harassment, Wasted funds for the NG. Wasted funds for this and that. Wasted funds for AF2 etc. Cronyism etc.

The gap between the percentage of people who think the nation is headed in the right direction instead of the wrong direction is about 15 percentage points today, compared to about 31 points at the same point in Biden’s 2022 cycle and nearly 28 percent at this point in Trump’s first term, according to Real Clear Politics. Republicans’ voter registration advantage is also expanding nationwide, while Democrats’ favorability remains 27 points under water compared to 13 percent for Republicans.

Why the difference from the "approval" numbers, I don't know - maybe it's just a "dissatisfaction with the current House, so some will vote for a change, even if they don't see something specific to vote for" feeling.

The real life is that prices are insane.
The economy is NOT good when gas and food are going up. Maybe for once, these officials could use everyday markers to analyze how the economy is.

Wall Street is not the indicator that people use to buy groceries and pay electric bills. And the market fluctuates like the pulse readings of a stressed homeowner and working stiff.

These people clearly aren't buying the Trump economic narrative. There is a local peak right at the very start of 2025. Then it's been straight down except for a little recovery after the worst of the Liberation Day tariff fears (and after the corresponding stock market dive), and now it's heading back down again.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143528951#post4
There's also a 50 year version of the chart at https://www.sca.isr.umich.edu/files/chicsh.pdf for a longer perspective. It's very bleak -- we're at about the lowest level seen in the last 50 years, about matching the lows of 1980, and the 2022 peak-of-inflation low.
Other charts: https://www.sca.isr.umich.edu/charts.html

=======================================

And inflation is heating up. 3 month average, annualized: 3.5% (3.6% for the core CPI)
The August one month increase annualized is: CPI: 4.7%, (core CPI: 4.2%)
