Hegseth orders rare, urgent meeting of numerous generals, admirals

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has directed numerous generals and admirals, as well as some of their staff, from around the world to come to Quantico, Virginia next week, U.S. officials confirmed to CBS News on Thursday.

"The Secretary of War will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week," said chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell.

There were no other details about the meeting given.

I don't think the US military has done the necessary logistical preparation for a long term military operation. Remember how long we prepared for Iraq. Gen Norman Schwartzkopf famously said about his preparations for the invasion of Kuwait that "Amateurs talk tactics, Experts talk Logistics". I think it's controlling the forces during the shutdown and also to see who is on board with using troops in the event of civil unrest. There were reports that the Guard troops and Marines sent to LA were saying they felt that what they were doing was wrong. And we've all seen the Guard picking up trash in DC.

Another possibility could be gauging the effect on loyalty in the ranks to Trump if the Epstein files are released.

The US military is not structured such that it can resist a tyrant like Trump, since that would be a coup by definition. It would require supremely independent senior leadership to do so, coordination with Congress or the Senate, and members of the administration to succeed.
