After 738 Days: These Are the 20 Israeli Hostages Released by Hamas From Gaza on Monday

Source: Haaretz

The last 20 living hostages taken by Hamas on October 7 were released from Gaza on Monday under the cease-fire deal, bringing to an end 738 days of captivity that began with the deadliest attack in Israel's history. 28 hostages remain in Gaza. Their bodies are expected to be returned soon.

For the first time in more than two years, no living Israeli hostages remain in Hamas captivity. The last 20 living hostages were released from Gaza on Monday, after 738 days in captivity, under the cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

The release took place in two stages: seven hostages were freed in the early morning hours, followed by 13 later in the day.
Twenty-eight hostages remain in Hamas captivity. Their bodies are expected to be returned soon under the cease-fire agreement.

On October 7, 2023, more than 251 people were taken hostage from Israel and held by Hamas and other Palestinian factions in Gaza

Hamas still holds 28 Israeli hostages. They were all murdered by their captors.

. . . the Sons of Abraham will commence killing each other with glee and abandon and a lot of US weapons.

Psalm 137

1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion.
2 There on the poplars we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.
7 Remember, LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. “Tear it down,” they cried, “tear it down to its foundations!”
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who repays you according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

The Edomites, who wanted to tear Jerusalem down, eventually converted to Judaism. One of them, Antipater, became king of Judea, and his son Herod built a magnificent temple in Jerusalem and became a central figure in the New Testament.

Not sure if this will make you more or less pessimistic.

Congrats to the Trump Admin for using the plan Biden left them but inserting Trump's name for branding purposes.

In 2 years, the IDF couldn't find them, and they weren't killed by combat operations when essentially every building in Gaza was destroyed. Hamas didn't murder these 20, either. They didn't starve to death.

I am curious as to the technicalities of where and how they were held, too, but I don't ever expect to learn.

Oh, and Welcome to DU.

They were abducted by force. There is plenty of evidence that they suffered extreme abuse by their captors. For two years, whether they live or die was entirely in the hands of their captors. In no circumstance did this make them safe or secure.

Hamas caused their deaths and abuse in captivity. I am hard pressed to associate any of this with safety or security.

Many groups say Israel holds 500 to 700 kids 12 to 17. However, every day Israel arrests 10 to 15 kids in West Bank.

Glad the hostages are home but the videos online of IDF dragging little 8 yr old kids away is horrific. One video has them dragging a little girl because she picked up a knife off the ground.

But rescuing them would end the Gaza siege and force him to face the music of domestic crimes. So he didn't bother. He's getting most of his demands from Hamas, but probably thought they would not go that far. Well, they did. Now, I think he's looking for a way to sabotage all this.
