Rep. Stephen Lynch mulling a Senate run .
Wednesday, January 2, 2013
U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch says he's giving "serious consideration" to running in a special election to replace Sen. John Kerry, raising the potential of a nasty and and costly primary battle that Democrats were hoping to avoid.
Sources close to the South Boston Democrat say he's already talking to well-known political consultants and is likely to hire someone in the coming days to map out a possible primary fight.
Lynch's possible entry into the race would disrupt the plans of Democratic party leaders, who are already lining up behind U.S. Rep. Edward Markey in an effort to avert a primary fight that could help the possible Republican candidate, departing incumbent Scott Brown.
Brown has yet to announce his plans but many Republicans expect him to run after he lost his seat in November to Democrat Elizabeth Warren, who will be sworn in on Thursday.

Anti-abortion, anti-ACA. Doesn't define "moderate" in my book. While I'm all in favor of the primary process introducing new blood, this guy just seems like a Republican-in-Dem's-Clothing.
I think some consultant has been feeding Lynch a line of bull, and plans to line his pockets at the expense of the Democratic Party.

(7,403 posts)Before I opened the link and read "South Boston" in the clip it was a red flag then I opened it and saw he voted against Obamacare and everything was confirmed, causing me to look harder at the source.
It would not surprise me if Brown was behind this much like McCaskill supporting Lynch in the MO Republican primary. Lastly, I seriously doubt that Lynch could compete on a Statewide basis so this doesn't look like a serious threat to me. Indeed, it would surprise me if Lynch actually enters the race given what an uphill battle it would be.

(11,464 posts)hurts the state
especially as Ms. Warren is going to focus on one issue and one issue alone, and that is going to hurt the state's residents who want things done instantly for each and every resident as residents often do.
That is what made Teddy so great on the left, and in NY, why Al D'amato was loved by many because they took care of the little guys potholes that needed to be fixed.
(note-I was not a lover of D'amato, just saying why he was beloved and still wonder why he was next to Kirsten G. when she was inaugurated).
Charles Schumer is another who looks after the little guy in NYC and both Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez does the same in NJ
It is why I fear Brown shall win, and one can make a zillion excuses, but this did not have to be if it turns out that way.
I can't recall many times though when one state had two of the bottom seniority at the same time. And it is important, very important.

It is true that Massachusetts will have the lowest combined amount of seniority. However, part of the reason is that for decades they had a huge amount of seniority in the form of two of the most capable Senators in history.
Note that Brown winning does not give more seniority than the Democrat would.
Given Markey's record in the House, he will likely be as good or better than Schumer or Menendez.

(237 posts)He doesn't stand a chance against Markey. Both are long-time members of the House, Markey longer, and Markey already has support of many. Lynch is worse than Scott Brown, on many issues.

(1,406 posts)a guy that actually worked in a Union. Came from nothing and worked his way up. Someone who understands the value of educational support and disability pay. Using both while out injured from the Ironworker's. A person who has seen many of friends and constituents lost and hurt in military service, and you will probably not find a bigger foe to the FBI in Congress than him. He was an initial yes to obamacare, only to change his vote because he believed the excise tax on Cadillac plans would hurt rank and file Union members, secondly he thought the Slaughter strategy was disingenuous and harmful to Congress' credibility. Let's hear all the candidates and not the ones selected for us by The Democratic Establishment. When were Democrats, Liberals, or Progressive in favor of ANY Establishment making decisions for them?

Vote for him. Why strangle debate and limit who WE THE PEOPLE should get a look at. He also happened to represent the most conservative Democratic district in the state. You can not do much if you do not get elected.
