'It's A Tinder Box': GOP Lawmaker Warns More 'Explosive' Resignations Coming After MTG

Source: Huff Post

Nov 24, 2025, 11:23 PM EST

A senior House Republican reportedly warned that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) shocking resignation is just the beginning, and predicted that what happens next could cost the GOP the majority even before next year’s midterm elections.

“More explosive early resignations are coming,” the unnamed figure told Punchbowl News on Monday. “It’s a tinder box. Morale has never been lower. Mike Johnson will be stripped of his gavel and they will lose the majority before this term is out.”

The source, described only as a senior House Republican, said the White House was treating GOP lawmakers “like garbage” and accused House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) of allowing it to happen.

“The arrogance of this White House team is off putting to members who are run roughshod and threatened,” the person said, adding that rank-and-file members “are more upset than ever.”

since this ran this morning -- 4 hours ago? -- ive gotten countless text messages from House Republicans agreeing with this sentiment. and saying why the hell should we stay in congress if all we're going to do is vote on censures and be a potted plant.

A few other GOP members messaged us over the weekend saying that they, too, are considering retiring in the middle of the term.

Here’s one particularly exercised senior House Republican:

“This entire White House team has treated ALL members like garbage. ALL. And Mike Johnson

What if they are just saying this to give Americans hope? Take our foot off the gas of despising this Admin?

The crowd that coined "fuck your feelings!" ???

Hitch your wagon to a manure spreader and the consequences are predictable. Maybe not immediate, but foreseeable, especially after witnessing PeDonald's first term. Nobody comes out smelling like a rose. Just ask "America's mayor".

Impeach and remove Trump, and keep Vance on a short leash with threats to do the same.

They can’t be singled out for death threats if they all oppose Trump, and use their power to remove him.

In overall approval rating (or thereabouts) across a wide berth of polling. If he manages to stay above 35% they'll continue to suck up, but if he drops below 35% and it stays there? You'll start to see a lot of them leaving the reservation in some sense.

Instead of just kissing the feet or Orange Jebus.

They are supposed to be a Co-Equal branch of government, and I would say they may as a body have MORE power than the executive.

They can actually remove individuals in both other branches from power.

23. That would take action by the House leadership.

The unhappy repubs would have to remove Johnson and replace him with someone that sees the power of the Congress being as important as the power of the Party.

I'd imagine people who have been in the House for many years have gotten used to a certain level of power and prestige and are not liking that being curtailed by becoming nothing more than the Old Man's rubber stamp. I could see people like that becoming disaffected.

But as long as they fear the Old Man, or their own voters, more than they dislike being lap dogs, they'll stay quiet.
