You mention your wife's genetic makeup.
I'm an old white guy, my DNA traces to Great Britain and Europe. On both sides of my family are Swiss.
-- My father's parents immigrated to the US from Switzerland in 1910.
-- My maternal G-g-g-g-grandparents came from Switzerland to South Carolina in 1740's (not certain of how many "greats" to add).
I know from the 1850 and 1860 slave censuses that my Swiss ancestors in SC were slave owners.
Good friend of mine is a Black guy from SC who traced his ancestry to enslaved generations. His DNA shows his ancestry is 30% SWISS!!!! We refer to each other as "cousin" because no doubt my SC Swiss grandfathers somewhere along the way crossed over the color line with one or more of their enslaved ladies.!!!!
Will there ever come a day when we recognize we are only one race and that's the human race???
