Hennepin County prosecutor asks the public to share Renee Good shooting evidence with her office

Source: PBS

Nation Jan 9, 2026 2:01 PM EST

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty on Friday called on members of the public to send any video or other evidence in the fatal shooting of Renee Good directly to her office, challenging the Trump administration's decision to leave the investigation solely to the FBI.

Moriarty said that although her office has collaborated effectively with the FBI in past cases, she is concerned by the Trump administration's decision to bar state and local agencies from playing any role in the investigation into Wednesday's killing of Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis. Specifically, she said she's worried the FBI won't share evidence with state investigators.

"We do have jurisdiction to make this decision with what happened in this case," she said at a news conference. "It does not matter that it was a federal law enforcement agent."

So glad to see the County getting involved, but I am sure Trump team is not.
Brave woman--that is for sure.

She also said that despite the #Trump administration's insistence that the officer who shot Good has complete legal immunity, that isn't the case.

If feds are actually shutting local law enforcement out of the investigation, they are very likely to demand evidence collected by Moriarty and her office. She can then do it on condition they share their evidence with her. That's if they're actually collecting real evidence.

Of course with the orange monkey in charge he just upends any federal law enforcement or even the federal judicial system. Especially with his pardons for hire.

F the FBI. We can't count on these fascists for anything now. And the FBI is simply not needed in this case. The evidence speaks for itself. Hopefully Ms. Moriarty will get an arrest warrant in the next day or two. This does not require seating a Grand Jury because the probable cause and the perpetrator are obvious to any judge.

The process for an arrest warrant involves police gathering evidence to establish probable cause (reason to believe a crime occurred and the suspect did it), then submitting a sworn affidavit detailing this evidence to a judge or magistrate; the judge reviews it, and if satisfied, signs the warrant, authorizing law enforcement to arrest the named individual.

That doesn't mean it will be easy to apprehend the masked gunman. If he hangs out in FLorida or Texas, they will probably not surrender him. But we need to go through the process nonetheless so the people can see how fascists operate when challenged.
