Democrats will stop Donald Trump from trying to steal this years midterm elections, Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the US House of Representatives said on Sunday.
Jeffries comments come amid widespread concern after Trump said Republicans should take over the voting. The US constitution gives states the power to set election rules and says Congress can pass laws to set requirements for federal elections. The constitution gives the president no authority over how elections are run.
What Donald Trump wants to do is try and nationalize the election translation: steal it. And were not going to let it happen, Jeffries said during an appearance on CNNs State of the Union. He added that Democrats so far had successfully blocked Trumps efforts to federalize the national guard countered a nationwide push by Republicans to redraw congressional district boundaries to their advantage.
This is going to be a free and fair election, Jeffries said. It is going to be conducted like every other election where states and localities have the ability to administer the laws.

(11,554 posts)maybe continuing to fund ICE so they can "guard" the polls?
I shouldn't have to put that there. DEMOCRATS should not be voting in favor of any funding for ICE, and in fact should abolish it. "repeal and replace".

(677 posts)There is absolutely no mechanism, legally or operationally that he can do to nationalize the elections. What he's going to do is sign an EO doing it and he will get a couple of red states suck up to him and say "this is fantastic thank you golden god for saving us". Then when the election happens like it should he will declare that since CA, NY, IL, MN (throw in a few others for good measure) didn't follow his EO those representatives were not legally elected they will be barred from the capitol. Johnson will have enough coward GOP members vote for a rules package and elect him speaker again.
All of this is unconstitutional of course but they don't care and who is going to do anything about it?
