Cole County judge rules new congressional maps are not suspended on mere submission of signatures

A Cole County, Missouri, judge decided the submission of referendum petition signatures is not enough to suspend new congressional maps, and that these maps remain in effect.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri argued that the submission of nearly 700 boxes of signatures should have been enough to immediately block the map from going into effect.

The state of Missouri argued that a law could not be paused until the signature verification process is finished and the petition is certified.

Ultimately, judge Brian K. Stumpe sided with the state:

Is take a couple years to count and certify the signatures and verification and there you go.
