Son of 'Barney' co-creator arrested on attempted murder charge
Source: Los Angeles Times
The son of a co-creator of the long-running PBS children's show "Barney and Friends" has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for shooting a neighbor in the chest during a dispute, L.A. County sheriff's officials said Thursday.
Patrick Leach, 27, of Malibu was booked on suspicion of attempted murder after he shot the unidentified neighbor in the chest with a large-caliber handgun Jan. 9, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.
He was later released in lieu of $1-million bail, which was cause for concern among neighbors, Whitmore said.
"We are certainly monitoring the situation," Whitmore said. "We are doing our very best to keep that individual and neighborhood in our sights."

How does that song go?....
I Love you, You love me,
We're a great big fa-mi-ly,
And a shot rang out and Barney hits the floor.
No-more pur-ple di-na-saur.
Guns again?
Hard Assets
(274 posts)I think Chris Rock had it right: Tax the damn bullets $5,000 apiece. I don't care if it bankrupts the gun owners, there is no legitimate need for bullets.
What happened to good old fashioned fistfight?

There is no purple dinosaur in this story.

(13,485 posts)Irony and guns... that's the communication. A couple of weeks ago there would be no irony. But as time goes on the issue of private guns, shootings, killings, children, corporate interests, innocent bystanders, not so innocent bystanders, anger, sociopathic behavior, accidents, etc. become more loathsome. Then a child's beloved television character is less out of the picture and the story is brought home to all of us, personally.

(79 posts)I don't believe the father's connection to Barney has any relevance to the son's actions. Of course, reporters stretch to find some angle that relates to a person of more or less celebrity. The day may be coming when we'll read, "A guy who lives in the same block with the Barney co-creator was charged today with attempted murder, which for purposes of additional humiliation of the accused is also referred to as failure to murder."
