Breaking: Obama hosts George H.W. and Jeb Bush at White House

Unbeknownst to the press, President Obama met this evening with former president George H.W. Bush and his son, former Florida governor Jeb Bush in the Oval Office.

White House officials did not list the meeting on the president's schedule but released a photo through Flickr and Twitter.

According to the date and time stamp on the photo, it was taken shortly after 5 p.m. That's about the time Obama returned to the White House from a fundraiser at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

White House officials did not immediately respond to questions about the subject of the meeting and its exclusion from Obama's public schedule.

he was still skydiving 2 years ago. this is a man who has always had the best of everything including health care. hard for me to believe that he is to weak and fragile to walk on his own two feet especially since there's been nothing in the press to indicate and illness or injury.

evil people like him seem to live forever. I figure it's because God doesn't want them and the devil doesn't want the competition in hell.

Jan 2012

But if we are going to spin yarns, maybe he and Barbara got a little too frisky and he strained something. That accounts for the wheelchair, the lack of press coverage for any injury, etc.

But seriously. 2 years can be an eternity, health wise. Especially in your 80's and 90's. Things can change quickly. I knew a 92 year old who had worked until he was 91, then something changed and he started having trouble walking and had to move to assisted care. A relative of mine did manual labor on his farm until he was 97, then something gave way, and he was bedridden the last few years of his life.

There is a tradition among presidents that they'll meet with a predecessor any time if they wish. This is the second time Bush 41 has dragged Jeb along for his meeting with Obama.

I've read the older Bush wants Jeb to get into the Republican race but this really seems to be wasting the current president's time.

Sat Jan 28, 2012, 01:01 AM
Jan 2012

And no, it's not scary. In fact, it's a joke compared to other ways this administration has attacked and stomped on openness, prosecuting whistleblowers with panache, squelching trials by claiming classified information is involved. Do you know about those? Those are scary. This is merely an enigma.

They didn't take questions about it beforehand. And even though they schedule everything else (that they want to tell us), for some reason they didn't want people asking about it prior.

Yes, so they nicely released the photo after the fact, when they didn't have to release anything. So, now we have public record of 1/20th of a second of a meeting that was concealed from us beforehand. And you call that admitting anything? You call that disclosure? You call that open?

You so prove the point that by showing somebody like you a little, the White House can hide a lot. And maybe this meeting isn't the scary one, but for some reason, they decided they didn't want to be questioned about it beforehand, or after, in fact, because, if you didn't notice, they also released the picture late on a Friday afternoon.

And why ask why they didn't want to be questioned about it? You have your 1/20th of a second of record accounted for. You don't want to irritate our elected official with your funny curiosity. Not after you probably donated to his election.

He is hiding something about this. It might be scary, or it might be merely annoying.

WTF does a military action have to do with openness and honesty of government with its citizens, which was a promise Obama made very explicitly? And when he made it, he didn't say, "And we'll give bin Laden fair warning that we're coming," which would have been an important enough corollary to his transparency in government policy to bear mentioning. So, if my logic goes in that direction, surely a wise leader like Obama would have beaten me to the punch. Therefore, I take it that you think Obama is smart and right about this, meaning you're mistaken.

I acknowledge that, for openness, this was a trivial thing compared to the most harmful things the administration has done. Or that's the way it looks, since we can't draw any conclusions about it from the scant detail they released. All I could say is, their behavior about it is either deliberately dodgy or secretive due to some rigid protocol or policy that's itself secret.

few of those who are or were in a seat of power get arrested often unless their defeated by an invading country or arrested following a revolt.
In fact I am willing to wager that I'm more likely to hit the jackpot in the lottery this weekend than Bush jr is of ever being arrested and tried for the things many of us believe he did.

Consider the 'across the aisle' president Obama really did want to be.
Consider the Republican friends he put in charge of the financial fiasco.
Consider the huge problems getting anything passed in these times of great need.
And consider the amount of power the Bush Family Empire now holds within that party.
Now tell me if a President runnning for re-election can put a new VP on the ticket.

I know it's a movie script scenario, but just start thinking about a move like that.
History making
Partisanship breaking
For everyone's sake-ing
Let's get law creating
Political statement of the millenium!

Can't help it.
The thought occurred to me.

And after some thought already, I still don't know how I'd ultimately feel about such a thing.

You just gave me a scenario in which given the concept of a Pres. Romney, Pres. Gingrich. Pres. Santorum or a Pres. Paul, I couldn't imagine any reason for not voting for Obama, even though there are things he has done that have greatly disappointed me. But the idea of a Obama/Bush ticket made me literally want to throw up. In any scenario of any Bush, even a future grandchild or great-grandchild of Poppy + Babs coming near the White House is a deal breaker.

Actually, if Obama did this (or was ordered to do it) would be the death knell.

I get traditions of former Presidents being invited to the White House, including if they had a son who was President who was President coming to the White house. But that would be for an official visit. A dinner. An occasion. But something not on schedule? After he had been on a whirlwind cross-country trip? And not with the son who was a former President too, but instead the son who helped stage the greatest coup/stolen election in history? Something doesn't pass the smell test here.

Creepy.

The Bushes ARE attending the Alfalfa Club, and Obama IS speaking there tonight.

http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2012/01/obama_meets_with_jeb_bush_geor.html

The Bush father and son Jeb are in town for the annual Alfalfa Club Dinner on Saturday night, according to the Associated Press. Obama will attend with First Lady Michelle and deliver remarks. The AP reported that the senior Bush, 87, used a wheelchair in the White House. The meeting took place around 5 p.m. The Alfalfa Club exists mainly for an annual banquet and its members are current or past Washington powerbrokers or celebrities.

No. No. No. No.

I think that Poppy Bush just wanted to visit the oval office once more and have a chat with the president about some issue that could have been handled at a much lower administrative level. Obama looks kind of bored and tired.

Lack of courtesy on the parts of the Bushies -- as usual. The president needed the time he gave to the Bushies for his family, for his young children. And the Bushies were wasting it.

Only way he isn't running in 2016 is premature death or a Romney (or a brokered, non BushCo GOP nominee, possibly with Jeb as VP) 2012 win.

Even then, Jeb may still run in 2020. And I fully expect Jeb's son, George P. Bush, barring major fuck-ups, to make a run for the throne before 2028.

Sat Jan 28, 2012, 12:52 PM

they'd be in the streets with pitchforks? To me, the bush family has caused more harm to the majority of this country (not the rich, however). Poppy was in the CIA and involved in the cuban fiasco during the kennedy shooting, the family was doing business with fascists and apparently didn't stop, even when our soldiers were in harms way, neal bush was involved in the S&L theft, and it seems they're friends with the bin ladens and the house of saud. And, they particularly didn't like one of my respected congresscritters, Wellstone.

Sleazy business deals, questionable deaths, iran contra, lying the country to war and now the economy is in the tanker with the largest disparity of wealth since the great depression. Yeah, I think this family has aided in the economic quagmire of this country. And poppy and kissenger are the ones who publicly spoke out about the new world order. Which to me is code speak for mega global corporate takeover, where democracies and the well being of the people are counter to the will and profit of business.

You ever notice when the former presidents meet, that usually Pres. Carter is standing on the side? It's like a clump-clinton, bushes and then there's carter.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall on this meeting. I think there's the greed, power club and most of the american people aren't included.

The pix doesn't tell us anything about the mood/content of the meeting before they went in front of the camera. And the WH probably released the pix because somebody was going to leak the meeting. Their first choice was SECRECY. And the Alfalfa Club thing?--just a ruse. This was NOT likely a "social meeting" in my opinion.

So what could the meeting have been about?

My guess: Iran. And China in connection to Iran. I think that Bush Sr has basically been running U.S. foreign policy and war policy since Rumsfeld was ousted, and I think Bush Sr did that ousting of Rumsfeld. The main issue was the Rumsfeld-Cheney intention to nuke Iran. Circa 2006. A second issue was Rumsfeld/Cheney outing CIA agents and the entire CIA WMD counter-proliferation program, thus getting Jr in serious hot water with the CIA, at the risk of serious CIA retaliation. Daddy Bush stepped in, using his "Iraq Study Group" (old CIA cronies including--guess who?--Leon Panetta!). A better name for it would have been the "Iran Study Group" (or the "Save Junior Study Group&quot . My guess, at the time, was that China was threatening to come into it, on Iran's side (and maybe Russia, too). Threat of nuclear armageddon in the Middle East and possibly the world, or at least a major fracas. (Pakistan, India, Israel, all with nukes, too.) Bad for the oil business. Bad for transglobals in China. Etc. Rumsfeld/Cheney wouldn't listen to Bush Sr. He got together with the military brass (who also didn't like their plan), the current CIA and possibly others; they retired Rumsfeld and held Cheney in check for two years, then let the Democrats win, probably on promise of no investigation/no prosecution of Bush Junta principles--a "deal" that Obama agreed to. (Pelosi goofed when she stated publicly that, "Impeachment is off the table." WHAT "table," Nancy?)

And Panetta was then brought in, first to the CIA, and then a hop to the Pentagon, to heal this war that had broken out deep within the U.S. war machine. Another thing that Panetta was likely tasked with was monitoring "the deal" for immunity and covering up Jr's and others' trails where necessary.

We need to understand that, by 2006, one, far rightwing-connected corporation--ES&S which bought out Diebold--already had monopoly control of U.S. election results, with the 'TRADE SECRET' voting machines almost everywhere. This makes it easy--EASY!--for powers like the Bush Cartel to call the shots. They can elect and un-elect anyone they wish. Obama was "vetted," agreed to "the deal," and Iran--which went away for a while after Rumsfeld was ousted--is now back on the U.S. (transglobal/war profiteer) agenda. And Bush Sr very much wants a say in what happens.

It may be that something serious is afoot, again, with regard to Iran. Maybe the war plan has become more sophisticated (not a nuking) and thus more feasible without serious inconvenience to oil corps or transglobal manufacturing and shipping. This fits with Panetta's methodology--much subtler and more sophisticated than Rumsfeld/Cheney and the other Bushwhacks. Bush Sr's visit to Obama could have had to do with China's interests, the Bush Cartel's interests and western bankster interests in some move against Iran. Bush Sr may have spared us all nuclear armageddon but he did NOT visit Obama in the interest of humanity but more likely to "call in his chips" (very big chips) on some matter--a matter involving face to face with Obama, maybe alone (or just with Jeb). We can't know who else was there. But I would bet money on Panetta being there, under strict secrecy, if anyone.

On the issue of Bush Junta war crimes: a little known but potentially explosive issue is Bush Junta crimes in Colombia. I found it notable that Panetta's first visible act as CIA Director was to go to Bogota and yank mafia boss, president and Bush Jr crony, Alvaro Uribe, from the stage. Uribe landed on a silk cushion, probably because of what he knows. And there have been other cleanup actions, all pointing to U.S. crimes in Colombia over the last decade (and to Bushite consolidation and control of the trillion+ dollar cocaine revenue stream). Colombia prosecutors are pursuing Uribe, while the U.S. has been getting witnesses out of the country.

It's possible that this (potential for Bushwhacks being nabbed by Colombian prosecutors*) was a subject of discussion between Bush Sr and Obama, as well. But I would bet on Iran--with all the possible implications of U.S. action against Iran, and U.S. policy on Iran and the region--being the main reason for a face to face.

*(A witness recently came forward and testified in Colombia that "an American" was a go-between between the U.S. embassy in Colombia and the vast and illegal spying operation that Uribe was conducting. The suspicion is that the spying was used to draw up "hit lists" for the Colombian military and closely tied paramilitary death squads, to eliminate labor leaders, human rights workers, teachers, community activists, political leftists, peasant farmer organizers and others whom Uribe called "terrorists" (anyone who opposed him). This "American" was likely reporting to U.S. ambassador William Brownfield (appointed by Bush), who was closely involved in some of the cleanup and coverup actions, including an attempt to get total diplomatic immunity for all U.S. military personnel and all U.S. military 'contractors' in Colombia, in a secret U.S./Colombia military agreement, at least a decade into the U.S. military presence in Colombia, and the extradition of death squad witness to the U.S., on mere drug charges, and their burial in the U.S. federal prison system, out of the reach of Colombian prosecutors and over their objections.

(It is not clear yet that Colombian prosecutors are going after Bush Junta figures, but if they nail Uribe, Bush Junta figures could well be implicated, and the "chain of command" on U.S. military and covert ops decisions in Colombia, and elsewhere, was topped by Bush Jr. BTU, there is tenuous but intriguing evidence that Rumsfeld was directly involved in U.S. ops in Colombia (and against Venezuela) even after he left the Pentagon. He likely had a plan including "Office of Special Plans" rigged evidence that unfolded with the U.S./Colombia bombing/raid on Ecuador in early 2008. The plan was to tie Chavez/Venezuela and his ally Correa/Ecuador to the FARC guerillas in Colombia. It was quite an elaborate (and I have to say, Rumsfeldian) plan and it backfired. Rumsfeld showed distinct interest in this plan by publishing an op-ed about it in the Washington Post at a critical point in the plan's first stage (enticing Hugo Chavez to negotiate with the FARC to get hostages released).

(What else might Rumsfeld have been up to in Colombia? One suspicion: Using Colombia for "turkey shoots" to train black ops assassins and hit squads for other countries. Last year, Clinton's State Dept. "fined" Blackwater for "unauthorized" "trainings" of "foreign persons" IN COLOMBIA "for use in Iraq and Afghanistan." I think that the word "unauthorized" in that P.R. release was a lie.

(Be wary as "limited hangouts," as they began to be called during the Watergate scandal--that is, powers-that-be releasing partial info to cover up what's really going on. Such as Bush Sr visiting Obama because they are both going to Alfalfa Club event. Or such as the Obama-Clinton State Dept. "fining" Blackwater for "unauthorized" activities during the Bush Junta. We need to learn the fine art of "reading between the lines.&quot
